2014 Frozen Four Info Thread

So the solution may be lowering ticket prices.

Yes, I agree they should lower the ticket prices.

Seems to be a theme here.

I really want to know who made these claims about the empty arenas.

As far as low profile programs in the FF, do you think Bemidji, RIT, Union, Ferris State and Quinnipiac have seen increases in attendance since they made the Frozen Four? Because I would bet that they have. Knowing your team has a chance to win the National Championship is going to get people interested in said program.
Did you not watch/attend last year? 50% of the center ice seats were empty mousy of the weekend... Those were the club seats, so lots of corporate sponsors that didn't bother to show up, I'm sure at least in part because there was only one school there that most of the country even knows exist (outside of the political polls from QU)

Re: 2014 Frozen Four Info Thread

In the last two weeks I've received a phone call from an NCAA rep as well as a virtual handful of emails announcing tickets are still available. Is it safe to say this FF has the lowest demand of any in recent memory? I can't ever remember these kinds of blasts just over a month away from the event being held.

The NCAA rep wanted to know -- because of our priority -- why we didn't attend the last couple of years. I told him the seating locations this year stank and when dealing with added expense, the two combined put us off from attending (and, yes, we weren't that excited with going to Philly either -- he laughed and said he had heard that before). He also said it was a "recurring theme" among people he talked to about seating locations. He gave me his number for the future "in case we changed our minds" or if there was something "he could do for us" next year.

Either way they've got to be extremely desperate to move seats.

b) The regionals are also priced too high and the atmospheres are disgustingly pathetic except for a few regionals here and there (Minny/ND in Xcel, UNH in Manch, BC and/or BU in Worcester/Manch, Maine/Cornell anywhere in the East). The 6 team regionals were freakin disgustingly good. At least out East they were. I used to buy tix for them no matter what. Whatever the case may be, the 4 teams in 4 sites under the current pricing model is generally not working out well. Agree?

Like you I used to go to the Eastern regional for years -- when they split the format into 4 sites I stopped and haven't been back. Couldn't justify the price when I was no longer seeing half the field playing to get into a Frozen Four.

I've been on the "2 regionals" deal for years. They need to go back to it. There's not enough demand for the 4-site model with the ridiculously high ticket prices. Make it a pair of "Super Regionals" and/or throw in an earlier round of NCAA games at campus sites (or something) beforehand to make the Regional event something worth attending again. It hasn't been for years and the meager attendance bears that out. I also told the NCAA guy that as well FWIW.

Agreed.

Re: 2014 Frozen Four Info Thread

Interestingly, I just got an email from the NCAA that today tickets are now on sale for either Thursday or Saturday by themselves. I can't remember ever seeing this before. Especially in early March.

edit - just for reference, $110 for semis, $99 for finals. Upper level only.

I hope the NCAA gives me a call regarding what I don't like about the FF. Last year after the student body of Quinnipiac decided they wanted to stand during play we complained to the ushers then told they had a right to stand. I wonder if that would have happened at a Penguin's game? I doubt it. We insisted we have our good seats changed and ended up in the top row of the arena behind the goal after missing the better part of a period. Should that happen again this year it will be the last time for our family who have attended FF's since the early 90's.

What's wrong with standing?

Re: 2014 Frozen Four Info Thread

I really never understood these complainers. Stay home if you want to sit on your *** for three hours!

I'm 65 and have had 3 knee replacements. I only stand for the National Anthem. And BC goals!

Alternatively, one could easily be advised if they want to stand to stay home and stand in their living room for 3 hours.

Pretty ironic considering UML is the only student section I've ever seen that sits for the games...

The sections behind the goal should reserved for those who wish to stand. Since that won't happen, why don't you go to a sports bar if you chose to stand. It is totally inconsiderate to stand or lean forward in your seat while the puck is in play, it's called hockey etiquette. All NHL arenas including Pittsburgh do not allow fans to move down the aisles while the game is in progress. Visit a NHL arena in Canada and see what standing during the game gets ya.

See, here's the thing:

YOU ARE NOT AT A NHL GAME!

Do the students of your school stand at their home venue? Why should they change when their team has made it all the way to the NCAA Semifinal/Final? Don't fault the students for being into the game... You had a chance to pick your seats... It's your problem that you chose to sit behind a student section...
