2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

The committee has left this up-in-the air. We established a deadline of 5pm CDT to receive input from the extended committee (that's YOU) on whether Miami is in, Dartmouth is in, or IF we should make them have a 'play-out' game. We expect to announce this decision by 530pm Tuesday. This would give the teams 48 hours to bus to Moscow for a game Thursday. From there it only a short 11 hour drive for the winner to get to the regional site in Ashland OR. Remember, air travel is NOT permitted in this event.

I'd really rather see Miami stay home due to their betrayal of incompetence, but I will support a "play-out" game if it comes down to that.

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Perhaps there should be a play-out game so that the committee can test how poor of a host Moscow, ID might be in the event they make a future bid to host a less prestigious, more embarrassing event such as a BFB regional or the Futile Four. ;)

Old CCHA fans are certainly used to seeing and hearing the words "Miami" and "betrayal" in the same sentence, but that's another topic:(

Although, for sanitary reasons, no written records are kept of previous BFB/F4 events, some of us old-timers will remember that Moscow actually hosted a regional back in 2011, and they DID submit a bid to host again this year. That bid was initially rejected after we remembered multiple reports from participants and fans that the townspeople of Moscow (especially the rink staff) were cordial and polite.

They have assured us that a recent change of management has solved these issues, hence the committee's consideration of their rink for a possible 'play-out' site. The rink is now managed by a group known as the Grand Knights of the Aryan Nations, and the president of the local Chamber of Commerce claims to be holographic reincarnation of Heinrich Himmler.

Got it. In all the excitement, I forgot that voting was still open for that last slot. I voted for a play-out game, as I have not been to Moscow, Idaho, since 1979, so would be a hoot to see how the place has evolved over the past 35 years. The Ashland regional is a major attraction to me, also. I am thinking about taking AMTRAK to Spokane, and hitch-hiking from there to Moscow, if the play-out game happens. If not, I will take AMTRAK to San Francisco, and then north to Coos Bay, suicide capital of the U.S.; should be any easy hitch-hike from there to Ashland. :-)

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

@Snively;

We were curious about your remark that Coos Bay OR is the "suicide capital of the US." We couldn't help but wonder why such a nice looking, quaint, oceanside village would have that sort of reputation, so we did some research, on the world's most complete source of information; Wikipedia. We found the answer "Coos Bay is historically a Democratic stronghold. Every precinct within the city voted for Democrat Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections" Case solved.

Once again, due to media requirements, electronic coverage will be provided, once again by ham radio operators.

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

I think that it was established earlier that coverage would be via Morse Code.

Also, I was all wrong about Coos City, which I was confusing with Las Vegas (35 suicides per 100,000/yr), followed by Colorado Springs (26 per 100,000/yr), according to the internet.

Maximizing horse drawn carriage rides, while minimizing attendance. I would expect no less from such an esteemed group of committee members who consistently put forth a spectacularly subpar event!

Bemidji got screwed! Not only should they have been ranked lower (higher), but now the have to take on conference rival Huntsville.

Holy Beaver! The committee screwed up. Violated one of the cardinal rules of tournament bracketing, and put two conference opponents against each other in the first round. We were SO worried about keeping all those Atlantic teams in separate bands, we just forgot about Huntsville being in the WCHA now. We're totally embarrassed. We ought to all be fired. If we had any integrity, we'd resign, or kill ourselves.

There's only ONE WAY to fix this, and that's to send Bemidji to Oregon, and send Dartmouth or Miami to New Jersey.

Updated/corrected brackets coming soon.

Re: 2014 Bottom-Feeders Bracket, Futile Four BRACKETOLOGY

Due to an error in the original brackets, the committee has decided it can WAIT NO LONGER to decide the question of Miami's eligibility for this year's tournament.

Miami and Dartmouth will have a play-out game Wednesday 1:00 pm at Palouse Ice Rink in Moscow ID.

The BFB will break with tradition, and allow both teams involved in that play-out game to fly part of the way.
BFB has arranged for a private charter from Malaysia Airlines to pick up the Dartmouth team in Boston Tuesday afternoon, fly to Dayton to pick up the Miami team, then continue on to Boise. Each team will then bus to Warsaw for Wednesday afternoon's game.

Each team will be responsible for their own bus transportation back from Idaho. Whichever team advances to the Westwood NJ regional will have approximately 50 hours to make the trip, and our calculations show it just over 45 hours driving time from Moscow to Westwood. They should have plenty of time. We don't see what could possibly go wrong with this.

This is classic comedy.

Sacred Heart doesn't seem to play well these days when it doesn't matter. But, they are playing UMass, so they may be inspired to earn a W!

I see SHU making it to the regional final and then when they realize they are playing Canisius, they'll stop caring. Canisius takes that region. Princeton is hopeless.

Any time I can point and laugh at Miami, I will. Can't think of a nicer guy to be in last place of the NCHC.

And the Morse Code will be interpreted by a completely deaf gentleman. :D

Warsaw?

No matter. Now I get see six different teams in Moscow (Warsaw), Idaho, and Ashland, Oregon. Fantastic! :)

I do want to correct some preceptions of the townsfolk Moscow- they may appear to be cordial and polite, but I would like to point out that no less than the president of Boise State University, Bob Kustra, called the culture in Moscow, nasty and inebriated:

Originally from USA Today

"This is a great example of why my wife and I no longer travel to Moscow games,'' Kustra said. "It's a culture that is nasty, inebriated and civilly doesn't give our fans the respect that any fan should expect when visiting an away team. ... I don't think at Boise State you're going to find that."

And to this date, bozo state refuses to go to Moscow. So this backs up the original regional in 2011, as well as the decision to continue to not support the futile four in the area.

I have heard rumors that the US Dry Pean & Lentil Council whoes home is in Moscow is looking for partners to promote their product. Based on previous successful campaign, including the very bad Idaho football team, I would think this is a perfect match.
