2014-2015 Union Dutchwomen thread

Re: 2014-2015 Union Dutchwomen thread

Lundberg has been tremendous this season. Usually when faced with that amount of shots also comes a ton of pressure and better scoring chances for the opposition. Shenae has a very respectable save % when you take all that into consideration. Her save % ranks 16th among starters, and almost all see at least 1/3 less action than her. Conversely, Laden sees 11/game - I would venture a guess that many are from wide angles, outside, no screens, etc. Laden, is doing a great job stopping the pucks she should, and remaining focused throughout games, when there is little action. That is to take nothing away from Laden, her numbers speak for themselves.

I agree, but the one thing that gets little consideration is the whole goalie, player, rookie, defense or ? Of the week or month. If you play 2 games and see at total of 19 shots but get a shutout and 1 goal against in the the other, you are lauded as goalie of the week, string together a couple of weekends like that and you are on your way! But play on a team that scores less than 1 goal a game, see 100 shots give up 8 and week after week having 70+ shot weekends you are invisible. I don't have the answer only that the individuals who write up the games are fair, impartial and competent, as when the coaches vote "probably non of them review all or any video" the rely on the write-ups to determine who is selected.
I did a little research and found that Lundberg was a member of the last USA team to win a gold medal "Sweden" and the only team to beat their Canadian counterparts all 3 games at lake placid. But some how after she went to Union she fell of the USA grid? Anyway, with 20+ games still to play it will be a story to watch.

It was confirmed today that Union women's goalie Shenae Lundberg set an NCAA Division I women's hockey record last night for most saves in a shutout with 59.

Women's hockey began to be recognized as a Division I sport starting with the 2000-01 season.

Welcome to the Shenae Lundberg show! It would have been even greater if she had been able to score the Union goal herself by firing the puck down the ice on a delayed penalty call against NU. Imagine that!

That is Awesome!! Especially since Coyne had 14 shots on goal.

Lundberg left Assabet and went to the Wizards (if I remember correctly it was because they favored Kerrin Sperry who was a year ahead of her and was also a U18 USA Hockey goalie and played successfully at BU). If it went true to form, the Assabet program probably blackballed Lundberg with Mass Hockey and USA Hockey which is why she fell off the grid (yes - it used to happen - no idea if it still does). Ironically, I think that her last year at the Wizards, they beat Assabet in the MA state playoffs which is the last year that Assabet U19 didn't go to the national championships. She ended up at Union primarily because her coach at the Wizards, Mike McGrath, was connected to Union because his daughter Kelly was a committed recruit there.

A "team win" for Union today. Lundberg didn't have to do it all on her own for a change.

Brown's going to need a much stronger recruiting and bench coach to get back to their glory days.

Brown is actually scoring on average 2.9 goals a game. That is better than average. That's enough that they should be seeing at least .500 wins. I would say that recruiting for the offensive line, coach Bourbeau has been very successful.

Not true. Women's hockey was a D-1 sport before 2000. In 2000, the NCAA took over from the AWCHA and women's hockey got their own NCAA tournament.

The NCAA record books for D-I date back to 2000-01, and this is often referred to as the start of the NCAA Era for the sport.

Agree. The reference was made to women's hockey being a D-1 sport once the NCAA got involved and that's not accurate.

Re: 2014-2015 Union Dutchwomen thread

Lundberg is awesome and definitely keeps them in the games. The team will be screwed next year for sure....unless the AD does his job and gets rid of the coach and hires someone who can actually coach and develop the players. The coach must have something on the AD that she was able to extend her contract.
