Schafer is one of the biggest *******s as well and to me it stems from the 10-1 beat down in the playoffs in which his team was playing dirty and causing brawls. Screw him.

This isn't the first time he's gone off the deep end. Be lucky it isn't a full weekend series, though, or else Cornell then becomes one of the most coddled teams by the league ever.

Schafer showing off his exquisite lady parts complaining about running up a score in a PLAYOFF game. I thought it was in bad taste to beg for a dive on a clearly reckless hit but to bring back a playoff game that you got spanked is petty and shows that Mike goes to bed with visions of Bobcats dancing in his head. Almost worth a trip to Ithaca for round 2.

Honestly -- I almost missed the part where he whined about the playoff beatdown.
Mike, this isn't a beer league. If you want your opponent to stop scoring goals, here's a novel idea: Play some defense. Cornell got exactly what they deserved that night. This is NCAA hockey, these aren't pee wees. If you don't want your opponent to score, play some defense.
And yes, I felt the same way when Harvard did it to Quinnipiac in 2008. Rand whined that day about Harvard using its PP1 unit when already leading by a ton, and I thought he was wrong then, too. If you don't want your opponent to score, stop the puck.

Not surprising -- it was a pretty big surprise that Quinnipiac posted video of the post-game shoving match in the first place.
Here's the full-game replay. The goal happens at 2:36:15, and the post-game skirmish is at 2:44:15.
As for the controversial nature of the goal, I don't really see it. Is there some contact in the crease? Yes, but the puck is in the crease. So, I don't think that's terribly controversial.

As for no friends lately...........try substituting the word "ever." Most despised and reviled coach in the league. Big Mike doesn't have many fans but compared to Pecknold he is a paragon of virtue.

I have certainly gotten that sense in the now six years that I have followed this league. But you know what, I don't really care. From everything that I have read in the past, mainly on this site, about other teams/fans views of Rand and this program in our conference, none seem too positive. I could be off base, but it just seems like the Ivies and some of the great academic universities in this conference feel like Quinnipiac does not fit the mold.
That is a whole different argument, however. I am quite happy with Rand as this program's head coach. Let the outsiders bicker and moan.

Rand is responsible for his team, and his team only. As is the other coach. Do I like it? As I said above, I don't. But he's well within his rights. You'd want your coach defending your players, too.
Again, I don't care how hated he is. The guy wins. Twenty-win seasons every single year. He's not here to make friends, he's here to win. He's really good at winning.

You couldn't be more wrong. 99% of the players he coaches will go on to something other than hockey. He is part of an academic institution of higher learning. He is an example for his University and his players. You are indeed fortunate to have a winning program. But....I would credit more to the $$$ spent, the facility, the marketing of the program and the advantages that gives to recruiting......rather than to Mr. Personality.
Those assets aside....sooner or later, his personality will impact recruiting.

He has been in Hamden 20 years. He is still recruiting at a high level. Doesn't look like his personality is hurting them.

Hahaha I was bout to say the same thing. The kids obviously like him and as long as he is internally liked, I could care less what the rest of the ECAC thinks.

Again, this isn't high school -- this isn't even most other college sports programs. The players he coaches are all young adults. Most of them don't even come to school until they're 20 or 21 after playing Juniors for a couple years.
What Rand is doing is completely within the rules. It is the classiest thing, to always be whining to the refs? Of course not -- but you'd want your coach to do it. Yes, the things around QU hockey are to be credited for the lightning-fast growth of this program, but you're missing the plot if you think Rand has anything less than a huge part in all of that.

Why is that? Because coaches are supposed to set good examples and be ambassadors for their schools? Or was it just about winning? I'm so confused...

Schaffer was just saying what everyone else is thinking. Your coach is a tremendous *********. Everyone in the league and probably nation knows it. It's a shame people get suspended for telling the truth these days.
