2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"

Re: 2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"

Congrats to the Bobcats on a well played game that they definitely deserved to win.
Thanks. While I thought it wasn't their best effort, they managed to squeak it out at the end. I wouldn't go as far to say that we deserved to win... U had plenty of chances and we seemed to let them back in the game a few too many times. It was good back and forth action at times while both teams saw stretches of dominant play. We'll take the win and move on to Troy tonight.

Seems our games with RPI are always a struggle with close scores. A win puts us in at least a 2-way tie for 1st so there's motivation for the boys to get it done. Another complete effort is all we can ask for.

Nice comments from your Coach - appreciated.

— Quinnipiac Rand Pecknold started his postgame comments with some praise of Union.

“This is the first time I’ve been in the rink since April,” Pecknold said. “I was at the skate this morning. I want to say with Union winning the national championship is very impressive, and I have congratulated their staff before. But this is the first time in the rink, so congratulations to them. It’s truly a remarkable accomplishment.”

Good teams find ways to win games and this team has found ways to win. Great sign. Idk bout that disallowed goal. The only thing that would make sense is that they called the first shot a goal so everything after that doesn't count. The first shot obviously didn't go in, making for no goal.
8 points in 4 games is fantastic. Wouldn't of thought this was possible after UConn. PK was solid tonight. Not many RPI PP shots. Time to prepare for the north.

It wasn't pretty but it was a win. Kasdorf kept it close, except when St Denis was around! Nice to see Travis get the hatty as he skated hard all weekend.

Tough north country trip next weekend.

Big win! Four points this weekend is huge, and sets this team up quite favorably moving forward!

If the NCAA rulebook is the same as the NHL rulebook, the player needs to be in the process of shooting when the net is knocked off. Otherwise, it's no goal. I think the net was knocked off before the player started his shot.

Now, Quinnipiac probably could have gotten called for a penalty, but that wasn't the first penalty the refs missed tonight. Officiating, as normal in this league, was brutal for both sides.

Almost correct on the no goal call. There was indeed a "shot" before the dislodgement, and according to the Michigan State rule, may be considered for goal/no-goal, as you said. That particular "shot", however, hit one of the bars. The rebound went in, but, like a penalty shot, is out of consideration, because once the original shot is determined, play ends, in this case for the net being dislodged.

Have you ever seen an intentional judgement call for net dislodgement or shooting the puck out of play actually be called as a penalty within the last few years in the NCAA?

Great 4 point weekend. Anytime you can go to the capital district and take 4 points is huge. On to North country next weekend. Another 4 point weekend would be huge and likely giveus some distance.

I'm not so sure that was the call. Did anyone confirm that they were reviewing the initial shot that went off the post? That was a really long review -- what were they looking at for so long if they were only looking at the first shot? That one was really clear.

I have a fair amount of confidence they were looking at whether the net was dislodged before/during/after the rebound attempt, if only because of the length of the review. It wouldn't have taken that long if they were looking at only the initial attempt.

Looks like SLU will be without second leading scorer Gunnar Hughes against us. Huge brawl at the end of their game with Cornell last night (sound familiar?). Hughes picked up 30 minutes of penalties at the end, very impressive. 2 DQ's knocks him out 3 games according to the rules. The DQ's stemmed from was spearing and fighting majors.

If there is one game the guys go out and win one for the USCHO posters at Q, it's SLU ;)

No doubt. I want the boys to rip the cover off of Appleton. Would make this guy smile mightily.

Hm.. brawl at the end of a Cornell loss? Me thinks Cornell is the common denominator in many of these post game tussles. Their frustrations are evident and as Mike Schafer so eloquently said "they take the lead" from their coaches. Well Mike, way to lead! While all of you spin your tires spewing venom towards SLU fans, who for the most part have been very kind to me personally when introduced, Cornell and at this point to lesser extent Yale, will be my main antagonistic focus.

Re: 2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"

Nobody should have any excuse for overlooking Quinnipiac anymore, yet here we are two months into the season, and the Bobcats are still managing to sneak up on us. Sophomore Sam Anas is absolutely red-hot right now with seven goals and 15 points in 10 games, including five goals on one of the nation’s second-best power play (30.4 percent as a team, trailing only Bentley’s 36.4). Perhaps equally remarkable, Anas is the only player in the country to average more than six shots on goal per game (6.2); D-I’s leading SOG/game totals over the past two years have been 4.54 and 4.91, to give you some sense of scope. Not surprisingly, linemates Matthew Peca (senior) and Landon Smith (freshman) are having good years-to-date as well, with seven goals and 21 points combined. Second-line center Travis St. Denis notched a hat trick at RPI on Saturday, so look out if that line stays hot… and junior goaltender Michael Garteig may have a sub-optimal .903 save rate overall, but in league play that percentage shoots way up to .956. Heads up, ECAC… this is no rebuild; it’s a reload.

Re: 2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"

#14 in both USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey's polls. #12 in the more important Pairwise. Never too early to look at that right? Two big ones coming up in North Country. This is a great opportunity to put some distance between us and some tough teams. All these weekends of no hockey have me going crazy. Thinking about viewing Uconn/BU Saturday afternoon in Hartford.

Ryan Finnegan (Skipjacks Hockey) has signed a NLI with Quinnipiac University for 2015-2016 @QUAthletics @SJ_Hockey @USPHL

Finnegan signing is official. Pretty surprised it is for next season. Thought he needed another year of development with juniors.
