Re: 2014-15 NCHC Predictions thread

St. Cloud is coming off back-to-back conference championships. It might be a homer pick, but it isn't as crazy as picking Duluth to win.

Crazy like a fox!

Re: 2014-15 NCHC Predictions thread

I don't care how young and inexperienced UNO is.

Pick a Dean Blais coached team to finish 6th or 7th in an 8 team league at your own risk. Go ahead. I dare you.

I seem to remember being picked last, last season, and finishing 3rd.

In all seriousness, I think it is going to be tough for UNO to finish higher than 5th. Doing any better will require an epiphany from Massa in goal (or, freshman Brock Crossthwaite being good enough to take his job) and nearly every member of UNO's vaunted recruiting class being all that and then some right out of the gate. I am looking more towards next season, particularly in light of who is in THAT class, already, on top of the 11 guys we have coming in this season.

Our league is so crazy that you could make some sort of case for a lot of different scenarios. That said:

1. North Dakota
2. SCSU
3. UMD
4. DU
5. Miami
6. UNO
7. Directional Michigan
8. CC

Re: 2014-15 NCHC Predictions thread

Outsider's viewpoint, FWIW
1. SCSU - I always ride a winner until it's too late. This is why they love me in Vegas.
2. NoDak
3. UMD - Young talent starts to gel, Finnish goalie is the next Tukka Rask/Pekka Rinne
4. Miami
5. UNO
6. Denver
7. WMU
8. CC - This is the one pick I made with confidence

Not that it's such a crazy league, but the size too. With how small it is, I see it as a toss up between the 1-6 teams, any one of them could win it. CC better pick it up

how did CC get so awful?

They might not be as bad as everyone thinks. They lost 17 games by one goal last year. So they were in games but I think this was a sign that a coaching change was needed. I think they can move up a few spots this year but with a new coaching staff it will take some time. Hopefully they can finish as close to .500 as possible this year.

This is completely true. Even though Thorimbert kept CC in some games, he also completely gave away others. A lot of those 1 goal games are a product of the other team pulling their goalie or scoring in the last few minutes of the game. The Tigers were terrible at pressure situations last year, which is a direct consequence of bad coaching. They were also terrible at protecting their own net (cleaning up the garbage... cmon Tigers watch the Mighty Ducks!) and getting to their opponents net. Brighter days are coming however. The underclassmen, including the goalies, have a ton of talent that might be seen as early as this year. With discipline, I see CC potentially hosting a playoff game come March...

Yeah, the coaches should be teaching their crappy players not to fold under pressure. Good thing they FIRED SCOTTY OWENS!

When you have no organization or strategy for 6 on 5 and your penalty kill is one of the worst in all of division 1 hockey also because of that, that is more of a coach issue than a player issue.

Re: 2014-15 NCHC Predictions thread

For starters, Scotty Owens will always be a part of Tiger history and the real fans know that. On the other hand, it was certainly time for a change. I too am optimistic about this season for CC. It will be a tough road to hoe as is for any team in the NCHC but I always expect the Tigers to have home ice. At last weekends exhibition game they played ok, but it seemed to me like they played harder than last season. Goal tending seemed soft and special teams need a lot of work. I if we can show improvements there next weekend we are well along our way. Any NCHC fan or college hockey fan that can't respect the history and legacy of Colorado College, doesn't know their facts. Check em', there's a good chance we paved the way for you. And to the fair weathered Tigers fans who expect a win every weekend, wake up! It is up to us, the fans, to create an environment where our team can have advantage with home ice. Win, lose or draw, heart break, or happiness, I will be there and I will be loud!
