Re: 2014-15 D3 Schedules Thread
First off, let me say that we attended the tournament at Norwich last year and it was first class. I encourage anyone that is thinking about attending to make the decision to be there.
I was able to see all but a couple of Manhattanville’s games last season either in person or via webcast. Their 2013-2014 season record (8-14-4) does in fact indicate that the team was down from records in previous seasons. Here are a few things to consider.
1.) They may have played one of the tougher schedules last seasons with losses or ties to the following higher level teams:
Plattsburgh 2 losses
Saint Anselm 2 losses
Holy Cross 1 loss, 1 tie
Elmira 1 tie
Amherst 1 loss
Bowdoin 1 loss
Norwich 1 loss
2.) They had only one senior player on the roster that was a defenseman and was not a scoring threat.
3.) They had 14 new players with freshman eligibility. One was a sophomore academically, but was a freshman athletically.
4.) They had 6 to 8 forwards and 4 defenseman that saw the overwhelming majority of ice time in close games. When playing higher level teams which usually had 3 or 4 high quality lines they would have a tendency to run out of gas late in the game.
Their 2014-2015 recruiting class along with development of returning players should be able to provide at least another high quality line of players.
Another plus for this coming season will be the Valiant’s return to the Playland Ice Casino.
