Hungary is hanging tough against Canada. 2-1 Canada after two, but it was 1-1 for a short time in the middle of the second period.
Also Finland defeated Germany 3-2, having to come from behind in the third period and scoring the gamewinner with 32 seconds left in regulation. The shots were lopsided -- 52 to 19 for Finland -- but German goaltender Franziska Albl made 49 saves.
Schipper was named Best Player for Team USA with her goal and two assists.

Canada scored twice in the first 3:16 of the third period to extend their lead to 4-1, and that turned out to be the final score. The shots favored the North Americans 35-11.

Russia came back from two separate 2-goal deficits (2-0 and 4-2) to force overtime, and Yelena Dergachyova scored her second goal of the game at the 4:28 mark of the extra session to defeat Sweden 5-4. Russia got two goals in the final 2:25 of regulation to tie the game 4-4. Shots were 33-25 for Russia. Elin Johansson scored twice for Sweden.

Because (judging by the photos) the rink they are playing in is just that, a rink and not an arena equipped for video and streaming.

The U.S. and Canada completed their pool play sweeps, got quarterfinal byes, and advanced to Friday's semifinals.
USA 8, Sweden 0 - Sidney Peters gets another 10-save shutout as the Americans outshot the Swedes 57-10. Kate Schipper led the U.S. with 2 goals and an assist. Dani Cameranesi, Taylar Cianfarano, and Jennifer Ryan each had a goal and an assist. Cara Piazza, Megan Wolfe, and Grace Zarzecki also scored. Canada 7, Germany 0 - Canada could have won this one without a goaltender as they held Germany to only 5 shots on goal. Germany's Lena Schuster made 60 saves. Czech Republic 5, Russia 4 - This game had a little of everything. The Czechs took a 2-0 lead, Russia's Anna Shohkina scored twice to tie it 2-2, and Klara Chmelova's second goal put the Czechs back in front 3-2... and that was just the first period. The Czechs went up by two a second time early in the second period, but Russia scored two more goals, the second coming when Shohkina completed her hat trick with a power play tally with 4:50 remaining in regulation. Finally, after the Czechs called a timeout with 2:52 to play, Michaela Pejzlova scored her second goal of the game just 15 seconds later with what proved to be the gamewinner. The win propels the Czech Republic into the playoff round and sends Russia to the relegation round against Germany.
The quarterfinals begin tomorrow (Jan. 2) with Finland vs. the Czech Republic and Sweden vs. Hungary.
Finland 4, Hungary 0 - The Finns used a 3-goal first period to defeat Hungary and get the second position in Pool B. Shots were 29-25 Finland. Emma Nuutinen scored twice, and Anna Kilponen and Suvi Ollikainen had the other two goals. Finnish goaltender Eveliina Suonpaa made 25 saves for the shutout and was named Best Player for Team Finland. Hungary still advances to the playoff round thanks to their win earlier this week against Germany.
