2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I must admit that I was totally wrong on Gomez. I didn't like the extension that the Brewers gave him but he is certainly earning it this year. I'm glad it finally 'clicked' for him.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Holy Wily Peralta.

Now let's get Hellweg's ERA to single digits.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Gindl up for Hellweg, Khris Davis up for Braun, who was placed on the bereavement list.

At this point, it is almost comical who we're throwing out there. Some of these names I have heard over the years such as Gennet and Gindl, but Halton? Khris Davis? Automatic deduction in my book for spelling Chris with a Kh, btw. I can't help but think of Major League, "Who the *bleep* are these guys?" I take responsibility for the loss last night. We were up 3-0 when I tuned in and the rest was history.

Khris Davis had an amazing Spring Training and started the season with the Brewers, so I've heard of him. Hadn't heard of Halton before his callup, though.

Eight guys have made their MLB debuts this season. Only the Cardinals had more, with 9 (and they're actually good). The Mariners have also had 8.

Good. Thought it was me as I tuned in right before the triple to left center... :D

Yeah, spring training baseball does not exist to me. It's still college hockey season at that point and baseball is a non-entity at that point in time. It's sad that we're wasting great seasons by Segura and Gomez. Toss in Aoki, an oft-injured Braun, and a hobbling Ramirez and we should be winning more games than this. Unfortunately, we can't hit in the top and bottom of every inning.

First sweep since April. Yes, it was the Marlins.. but they didn't sweep them last time.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Non-shocker of the year.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/216496651.html

Major League Baseball has suspended Brewers leftfielder Ryan Braun without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season and he has accepted the penalty, meaning he was caught red-handed either buying and/or using performance-enhancing drugs.

The suspension takes place immediately, so Braun will be suspended for the final 65 games of the season, beginning with the Brewers' game Monday night at Miller Park against San Diego. The sanction came as a result of MLB's investigatiion into the infamous Biogenesis clinic, which was exposed as having sold PEDs to players after documents were released to various news agencies earlier this year.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

So did the team live up to the thread? Or did the thread predict the future?

If this thread can predict the future, I propose that the 2014 thread be titled "2015 Milwaukee Brewers: Back to Back World Champions!" :p

Ugh. I liked him because he was a consistent player who seemed to genuinely want to stay in MKE instead of chasing the money. Silly me for liking a player like that. :(

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Watching all of this coverage on ESPN, it seems that everyone is saying F U to Braun for lying and getting away with it. I'm ticked at him for blowing whatever goodwill he had earned leading up to that initial test. Where was all of this outrage when Bonds was smacking all those homers? Maris and Aaron still hold the records as far as I'm concerned.

I guess we'll have to wait and see just how stupid he was. Did he continue using PED's after that positive test/appeal? How long has he been using PED's? Since his U of Miami days? Is he solely a creation of the drugs? I'm curious. P'd off, but curious.

Some of us found it comical nonsense then the same as we do now. And we're usually jumped on for it by people who would rather cling to some emotional attachment to a dork that hits a baseball than they would admit reality. Sort of like what happened earlier in this thread and at the end of the previous. Problem is, more people would rather believe in fantasy than deal with reality. It's probably a good thing people don't know how dope-riddled pro sports and the Olympics are. Hell, even if they did they'd just rationalize denial of it anyway.

I will admit the media's treatment of the Braun thing is somewhat of a joke. Every time something like this pops up much of the media acts all shocked which means they are hideously naive at best or willfully ignorant at worst. Braun is just one of hundreds here. Getting caught not once but twice doesn't make Braun an arrogant fool, it just proves he's always been one. Nonetheless, making a big deal out of him doesn't accomplish a whole lot as all it will do is kick the bigger issue to the wayside. The media will care about this for about the next three days then will once again go back to clamoring for glory. Crisis du jour and nothing more. Maybe Chris Davis can get on a roll and hit 80.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Was he really caught twice? He failed one test that was thrown out due to the handling. It's not like he failed again to get this suspension.

MLB has paperwork that implicates him to Biogenesis, but he still hasn't failed an official test yet.

Maybe MLB should have just worked with Braun, offering a "Get out of jail free" card in return for knowlege of the potential masking agents.

My wife made a comment last night: could he have only taken something in an effort to get healthy again quickly that season? Could he have gambled just once and lost?

Right now, Braun and the Biogenesis guy are the only two who know.

Yeah, so as I was saying...

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

My dad is a sucker for someone who looks him in the eye and says something. He was down two weeks ago and Braun came up. He just kept saying, "But he doesn't look like Bonds or McGuire" meaning that he hasn't bulked up.

I just kept saying smoke ---> fire.

Like I said at the end of the last thread, I don't put these guys on pedestals anyway and root for the team over the individual players. Can't respect cheaters.

Don't care why he did it or how much - my guess is he did it a LOT. He knew it was against the rules. He chose to do it anyway and got caught.

I won't make excuses for him or try to rationalize it.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I'd like more info. How long as he been using? Since college? Since 20...?

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Frankie Rodriguez has been traded to the Orioles for a left handed third baseman currently in Single-A.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Oh, and I was gently reminded by the FS-Wi feed that Tyler Thornberg's at-bat music is more detrimental to the game of baseball than any quantity of drugs Braun could have taken. :p
