2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Narveson on the 15 day DL with a sprained finger, Blake Lalli called up.

On the bright side, Estrada had a good outing.

So... maybe it' not just Axford? (Well, part of it is but hear me out). Maybe we need a new pitching coach? Or at least a "late reliever" pitching coach? Can we hire away Trevor Hoffman from his cushy Padres job?

The Brewers fired their bullpen coach last year, and they're having many of the same problems this year. It's easy to point the finger at Axford, but nobody has been outstanding. They can't possibly be overworked yet, can they? The starting pitching hasn't been that good, either.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Henderson to close for Brewers. That was the news before the game. Unfortunately, that means Axford is still on the team and available to pitch. And pitch he did this evening. Ouch. Brewers didn't do much after scoring 3 in the 2nd, but it still felt like they deserved to win until the bullpen blew it again. Peralta pitched well.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

Well, the first half of that game was close at least. Wainright owns the Brewers and the Cards own Gallardo (will be 1-10 after today vs them), so to be in a 1-0 game in the 6th was promising. Emphasis on the 'was'. The Crew need to get this ship straightened out soon before it's too late.

The 'hits' just keep on coming.

Yo gets a DUI. Scheduled to pitch Thursday; no word on if that will still happen.

Sure seems like it should. Despite the .22 BAC, he had a clean record and supposedly that's only about an $800 fine in Wisconsin. There is always the possibility that he needs to be in court on a given day but I don't see it preventing him from pitching on Thursday at home...

I don't know...I have zero tolerance for things like this. I would like the see the team step in and suspend him for his sheer stupidity if nothing else. First offense shouldn't matter, IMO; it only takes once to end someone's life.

I wasn't talking about the team, I was talking about Wisconsin law...yes it was stupid, there should be zero tolerance on this.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

I agree with you. Both the team and the court of law should not take this lightly, although we know they kind of will.

That said, how shocked can we be that the Brewers produced a pitcher full of beer? (Oh man, I wish I could take credit for that one)

You're right, WI law is ridiculously lax on DUI's. I know there have been recent efforts to toughen the laws, but there is too much resistance. Why? I have no idea.

Have you ever driven over .08?

I'm not here to say it's okay, but a first offense is a first offense. He should probably miss a start, but let's not string him up just yet.

Everyone makes mistakes. My frustration is when you see people who clearly don't learn from their mistakes and are on DUI number 4 or 5 or 6 and they're not made to do prison time.

Btw, before anyone asks, I have lost family to a drunk driver. My sister-in-law, her husband, my niece (17yo) and my niece's friend were killed in 2002 by a drunk driver. He just got out of prison.

This is the only article I could find on it: http://genforum.genealogy.com/thieme/messages/63.html

No, I have not. I'm not saying we need to throw the book at first-time offenders, but something more than a ticket would be great. That's just my opinion. I haven't lost anyone thankfully, and am sorry that you and anyone else ever had to. The culture here condones, to a degree, this type of behavior and it will take a lot more than a ticket to change it. Now back to your regularly scheduled baseball thread.

From JS Online:
We have also updated our story with information that the collective bargaining agreement does not allow a player to be disciplined for drunken driving but it is mandatory that he be referred to a treatment board to be assessed by a physian, who would determine if counseling is necessary.

A player can be disciplined for breaking team rules such as curfew violations. That discipline would be a fine. The Brewers' curfew is believed to be 2 a.m., so Gallardo would be subject to a fine for being arrested at 2:10 a.m.

Again, I don't condone it. Christmas hasn't been the same in our family for 11 years.

I just think that sometimes famous people are held to an unfair standard that we wouldn't hold our buddies, our family members and certainly not ourselves to.

I just hope that Yo learns from this and doesn't do it again. That's where the opportunity here lies.

Thankfully, he didn't hurt anyone. Not for himself, but for the potential victims.

I agree with Gurt. I lost a cousin to a drunk driver and I've had an experience with a friend getting a DUI. He planned the entire night to take a cab home but managed to get so drunk that at a certain point he decided it was good idea to drive home. I am not condoning Yo's behavior but the major issue isn't the driving home as much as getting that drunk on a monday night to the point that he probably was so far past sober that he thought he could drive. Making any kind of decision when 3 times the legal limit is never a good idea so the best course of action is to make decisions before you get there, whether it be giving your keys to a friend or locking them in your car and coming back with spares later or making arrangements for a 2am pick up long before you get blasted. I do think it is very sad that collective bargaining prevents the Brewers from punishing Yo. He could have easily killed someone and thank god he didn't.

Re: 2013 Milwaukee Brewers - Cheaters, Underachievers and Disappointments Oh My!

According to baseball's CBA, the team CANNOT suspend a player for drunken driving. It is mandatory that he will be referred to a treatment board to determine if he needs counseling or if it was a one-time thing, etc. The team CAN fine him for being out past curfew.

I don't think any wins are going to be easy this year... but I'll take it.

Headed to my first home game of the season tomorrow. I was slightly disappointed to read last year's Chef's Table is now called the Double Clutch Stand and isn't themed to match the visiting team, but is more "food truck" style options that change frequently.

Brewers sign K-Rod to a <a href="http://www.jsonline.com/newswatch/203491041.html">minor league deal</a>. I am not kidding.
