Hammy is hearing Nate Schmidt may be off to WSH, per a GPL post. Watched him skate with Boyd in their development camp, if I recall correctly.

Well, if we are reporting rumors, my cousin went to HS with Bjugstad and was at a party with him this weekend and he supposedly flew down to Florida last night.

Florida fans are trying to arrange a "We want Bjugstad" chant on HFBoards. They are worried about people pronouncing it correctly...

Re: 2013 Early Departures

But he said for sure he was staying. HOW COULD HE LIE LIKE THAT?
I don't think it went down like that. I think he was being optimistic and actually believed what he said at the time. Then, he realizes that he's about to graduate, his best friend on the team says he's going pro, his adviser reminds him that he could get injured and lose everything, and the coaching staff at Minnesota says "no really, we'll be fine, go ahead." I think that's when he finally came to his senses and realism overcame optimism. There really was no reason for him to stay.

I know. I just love how they go from "I am coming back next year" to 48 hours later leaving.

Re: 2013 Early Departures

Can't fault Budish but honestly, don't ask somebody when his team just lost and he's still thinking of his teammates and its all brand new. Seriously, you're just asking to be lied to.

Re: 2013 Early Departures

Tough day for the Big Ten. Per EJ Hradek, Trouba is gone. Schmidt, Crane, Trouba, and Budish (likely) all gone from Big Ten teams in one day.

Yeah, Budish's quote didn't mean anything to me, as I'm sure it didn't to anyone who has closely followed college hockey for the past decade.
And I'm sure it didn't mean anything to the journalist who asked it, other than to get the kid to say something that they could publish.

We are all used to it by now, but he could have just as easily said "I am going to let this loss sink in over the next few days and evaluate my options." People give non-answers all the time, especially athletes.

He was coming off an emotional loss and had been with the team for 4 years, I think it was perfectly fine to answer the way he did. Most understand this becomes a business during the off-season and things change frequently.
