I can't wait for Thursday, this Gaudreau line is making me nervous though. Go Union !

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I'm fine with Ghost not being a finalist, it gives him more reason to come back next season! ;) Somehow, I don't see the Flyers letting him leave Philly without a signed contract. :( Actually I'm a bit worried about that as a potential distraction for him. I think the same thing was going on behind the scenes two years ago with Jeremy Welsh in Tampa and it may have effected his play in the semi. Hopefully I'm wrong, I usually am.

Although I think Ghost will sign, I do not think it will affect his play at all. Once those guys are in game mode they snap everything else out.

It's making YOU nervous?

I'd like to think that Union just needs to focus on containing that line and everything else will be fine, but since BC gets the last change, who defends that line for Union is almost out of the coaches' control. That said, I like all 4 Union lines and 2 of the 3 D-man pairings when on defense. The only other D-man pairing can make me a little nervous, but they've all been picking things up in their own zone pretty well in the postseason.

DROP THE PUCK ALREADY!!!

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Just got permission from the better half to make a day trip down to the games on Thursday. Where is the Union pre-game? Really debating about grabbing a seat now rather than saving a few bucks by going the last minute street seller route( with it's inherent risks) I will be rooting Union all the way and hope they can make it a repeat for the ECAC!

Here is the information about the Union pre-game:

That is officially my biggest worry: i.e. the 3rd D-pair against the Hobey Line. Henry can be a turnover waiting to happen and, as you note, BC will have the last line change so this will inevitably happen. I like Charlie V and his size will be key against forwards like Hayes, but he can get worn down chasing faster players in his own zone. Hopefully the coaches can limit the times this will happen and Colin can come up with a big save or two.

My next biggest concern is just whether there will be a 20-30 minute slow start before the boys get their legs moving. That has happened a couple other times this season after 2-week layoffs and happened the last time U was in the F4. In Tampa, they were fortunate to still be in the game (and actually had a lead) mid-way thru the 2nd period, but doing the same thing against BC could be a disaster.

Other than that , I'm hopeful for a great game and a better result than the last time. The senior leadership on this team is just outstanding and they almost always seem to find a way to pull out a W. Are 2 more too much to ask for????

Here is the information about the Union pre-game:

Hope to see you there (and thanks for the support)!

Just picked up a nosebleed seat for short money, also registered for the pre-game. Will be the only idiot in a sea of garnet with a Yale jersey on.

We're glad to have you. Hopefully you still have some championship mojo leftover from last season.

I will be be in the sea of garnet and can confidently say you will be welcome with open arms. I'm leaving midtown Manhattan at 12:30 so I hope to make it down there by the time it starts at 2:30. See you there!

Make no mistake, they are the best line in the nation. Bennett said so as well in his last press conference. We are going against the #1 Program in College Hockey over the past decade, the #1 line and the #1 player. BC is the Benchmark. This will be another opportunity for the Dutchmen to compare themselves against the very best. A chance to play BC and perhaps make a statement about themselves. We will see.

We will need Colin Stevens to step up to the greatest challenge he has faced all year.

The stage is set for 60 minutes of great college hockey.

There will be no more excuses about last years BC team being the weakest in 15 years, etc. or that ECAC hockey had "one good year .... so what" If Union wins the leagues will be tied in interconference play, and the best of the ECAC will have beaten the best in HE, just like last year.

One thing I don't expect to be a factor is the "wow, it's great just to be here" mindset. I have to think there was at least a bit of that the first time around. This team has a deep well of character and determination. They have faced and overcome adversity all season. Yes, I am afraid of BC's explosiveness, but we belong on this stage. That doesn't mean we are going to win, but neither will this team quit until the final horn. This team is on a mission.

I'm seeing Coach Bennett and the players say that they're in this to win, not just be happy to reach this level. I agree there might have been some sense of "just happy to be here" in Tampa, but this feels different. The players definitely sensed that winning the East Regional was a great accomplishment, but also just the next step towards their goal.

One thing I have noticed more of this year is how there is so much more local media coverage about this team. I don't know if that's because of the #1 ranking in the poll and their accomplishments this year, but I find it hard to go more than a day or so without someone talking about them.

This area has always been about basketball, but I agree that the focus has changed. All it took was number one ranking in the country and national semifinals to get there. I also think there could be a huge showing for the team at Philly. The NY, NJ and Philly area is loaded with alums. My palms are getting sweaty.

We had a good turnout in Tampa despite the distance. I don't think it's out of the question to expect at least double the turnout in Philadelphia.

BC is great, but they aren't RPI 85 or Maine 93 great. They came within a fluke deflection of losing to Brown. You guys are solid -- you can do this.
