I received the same on Carr after the game -- day-to-day. It's not a good sign, though, that it kept Carr out of the rest of the game. He has been a remarkably durable player, missing just two games in his Union career.

Costly Win ....

"4-1 victory over #10/11 Cornell before a sellout crowd of 4,267 at Lynah Rink."

The team has got to feel good about winning against an excellent top 10 Cornell Team at Lynah before a sellout crowd. A very tough clean physical game. There ought to be a warning for Lynah visiting teams .... "stretcher-bearers" may be required.

Next stop ... Hamilton.

Let's hope day-to-day truly means day-to-day. Being a Knicks and Mets fan, I never really like when they say someone is day-to-day, but I trust Union more.

Great win over a strong Cornell team at Lynah. I've been there multiple times and it is a very tough place to play. Every other top team in the country won last night so we needed that win to keep pace. On to Colgate.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

"Day to day" is better than "we'll have to wait until things are assessed", which means he has to see an MD specialist. Carr is one of the toughest kids U has ever had and I'm sure if he has the medical ok, he will be back. Hopefully it isn't worse than what they are saying.. Of course, it could also mean the "C" word which could be more of an unknown return time like Stevens.

Regardless, a very good win last night and a big 2 points that all but clinches a league top 4. The big battle now is for a #1 seed in NCAAs, which really comes down to who will be the two teams other than Minny & BC. U is in a good spot now, but that could change in a heartbeat and won't be determined until end of playoffs. Team just needs to take each game one at a time. Gate is going to be even tougher tonight, though sounds like RPI did a pretty good job of making them breathe hard.

..and Wholin, after googling what BVI means after shoveling 20" of snow from driveway, lets just say I'm not overly sympathetic to your "life is good" mantra ;).

What happened to Carr, hit into boards, was it a cheap shot ?

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

I am very glad for the win and I like the way we played in stretches, but if Cornell put the puck better on net this would of been a different outcome. I know some of their errant shooting is due to our sticks and pressure, but I still think they were snake bit. I do like our composure and how we usually know our assignments but at times again, I was worried.

Part of that was us missing two of our forwards with scoring touch. But a lot of it was Union's great ability to control shooting lanes, and the rest was Stevens, who was superb. When we did get the puck on net he never gave up the rebound.

Please beat Colgate.

It was a clean hit by Lowry. Very unfortunate -- we lost Mowrey last week in similar fashion.

Just saw the replay of it on the ILDN. The hit was a little high, but not outside of the realm of play. The puck got caught up in Carr's skates and he had his head down and Lowry got a pretty big lick on him. Matt Wilkins laid a similar hit against UNH that sidelined one of their guys for a couple of weeks, just part of the game. There were hits that were much more egregious from both teams that ended up not being penalized last night.

ADK BVI weather report , 84 and fair winds. Sounds like we out "Cornelled" the Big Red last night, holding third period lead under pressure. Concern about Carr is obvious but this team has faced all sorts of adversity. Huge challenge tonight and if we win I predict another Cleary Cup, though hoping for bigger things. Visualize.

Sucks that Novak is out, he got run on a real dirty hit by Kubiak late in the second period. He returned for a few shifts in the third, but apparently it was something more serious than previously thought. I didn't see what happened to Roy, it's unfortunate that he's out because he's been playing the best hockey of his Union career lately. Lots of adversity to be faced tonight, but if any team can pull it off it's us. Let's go U!

With all these injuries, we are going to have to dig very very very deep to pull this one out.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Gritty effort by the boys tonight, this is one of those ties that feels like a win. Union officially clinches a first round bye with Clarkson and Cornell's losses tonight and move four points ahead of Quinnipiac with four games left.

Roller coaster game. Happy we walk away with 3 points this weekend. Here's to hoping Carr, Novak, Ikala, and Roy get well soon. I hope we also get more information on these injuries.

"The Cleary Cup, named for former Harvard player and coach Bill Cleary, is awarded to the team with the best record in league games at the end of the regular-season. There is no tie-breaking procedure should two or more teams end the season with the same record and the trophy is shared." from Wikipedia

Four more regular season games. Worse case if we win 2 we tie for it. If we win three the Cleary Cup is ours outright. Our destiny is in our hands.

Two wins away from at least sharing the Cleary Cup.

Guys on this team keep stepping up and good things continue to happen.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

From Schott:

"Union had a makeshift lineup for Saturday night's ECAC Hockey encounter with Colgate at Starr Rink."
http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs...ties-colgate-clinches-ecac-hockey-tournament/

The Dutchmen played the Raiders without forwards Cole Ikkala, Daniel Carr, Max Novak and David Roy. Matt Hatch was playing sick. Defenseman Matt Krug had to be pressed into service as a forward and play left wing, to fill one of the holes. Krug had never played forward before. I never thought we had a chance in Hamilton given the depleted ranks.

"It was a real gutsy effort in the face of adversity."
"Union overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 to get the tie."
"I thought it was an incredible effort by all our guys," me too Coach

"If things break right next weekend, when they host Clarkson and St. Lawrence, the Dutchmen can clinch their third Cleary Cup in four seasons."
How sweet that would be. However, this is the ECAC and anything bad and upsetting can and usually does happen, especially this time of year.

Stay focussed Dutchmen - Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson, Clarkson .......

Other notes:
The tie did not hurt us ... Ferris lost
We have still only lost 2 on the road (11-2-3) ... that might be the best record thus far this year in all of College Hockey (woops, St. Cloud is 10-2-0 on the road)
