Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

Union coach Rick Bennett has been named the Division I men’s coach of the year by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Congratulation Coach !!!!

What was the name of the BC Coach? The one that runs up the score on weak teams and whines about playing against older players? What was his name? Beware of the BC Fans in Phili. If they cannot make it to the urinal, they will relieve themselfs in stairwells and their aim is not that good.

I have to say I was surprised about this. His leadership and coaching abilities that lead his team to the frozen four also included this -

Shhh, you're not supposed to bring that up. The Dutchmen are a bunch of angels who clearly didn't do anything wrong.

Obviously, since the voting is by the coaches (his peers), they felt his body of work is greater than his weakest moment!! Depending on how you look at it, maybe there are more coaches than you think that would do the same. By the way, don't you have a soccer game or something to announce on the radio?

I hope there isn't too many coaches who think his actions are OK but you are probably right.

Winning > hitting a player while trying to hit opposing coach

I think it just says that the only people who still care about that incident or even cared about it at all in the first place are a few sadsack RPI fans because it was the highlight of their pathetic season. Everyone else couldn't give two ****s.

I give at least 1.5. Can you imagine the uproar if Coach Schafer did this? Seems like Schafer can't even give a ref a dirty look without being labeled a sociopath by most ECAC fans. Bennett throws a punch (don't care what his target was or whether he connected with anything at all) and gets the Penrose? Traveshamockery.

Re: 2013-2014 Union Dutchmen - Can U Three Peat? (Part II)

The RPI incident. He had a reason to go after Seth. I think his fellow coaches recognize that so they didn't hold it against him. You got Seth standing next to Curadi as Curadi taunts the Union players.
As an RPI fan I was more embarrassed by Appert.

bennett punching someone doesn't hold a candle to dutchman, the most embarrassing thing union has to offer! ;)

In looking over the HE conference this year you really get the sense of a "defensive oriented" conference. Except for BC, HE only has two teams in the top 21 for offense, Northeastern at 16th and New Hampshire at 18th. Notre Dame is at 22 and Providence at 23. Its a different story for HE defense. HE has 6 teams in the top 21 beside BC. Lowell (1), ND (5), Prov (7), VT (12), Maine (13), & NH (21). HE is all about defense. Statistically, BC's defense is about tied with Cornell and that feels about right. Their goalie is not as good as Andy Iles. I don't think this is going to be about BC's "top line" cracking our defense and rattling Colin Stevens. I think this is going to be our 4 lines putting so much presure on their D that it cracks. Their coaching staff knows this. Their focus this week will be on playing defense.

This is a way different BC team than last year. This is a way different Union team than last year. Last year we had a shutout going against BC up to the last 4 minute when JG blasted one by our goalie. There was actually an announcement over the PA at the game in Providence just before that that BC had not been shut out all year. That will not be the case this year. By the same token, we faced a number of top 20 offenses and outstanding lines this year including QU, SL, Yale, St. Cloud, NH, etc. Since January BC has not faced a team with 4 lines that can score and they know it. Their focus is going to be on stopping us first. Smart move BC.

At this time of year there is no such thing as "inexperience" or "youth" and none of the main stream media are picking up the constant whinning coming from BC and its coach about how young the team is and how unfair it is they have to play against 22 year olds. Give it a break coach (article in Boston Globe). ECAC teams are generally very young and Union is no different. CHN lists the ages of the youngest 30 players, the oldest 30 players and the average age per team. Go look it up.

On November 10, 2013 BC ran up the score on a hapless AHA Army Team 11-0 in the most disgusting and tastless display of sportsmanship I have ever seen. BC beating up on the 59th and dead last place team. Beating up on a service academy the day before Vetrans Day. As a Marine vet, this told me that BC is feckless. No one will ever mistake a BC hockey team for being a class act or having any class at all. BC outshot Army 21-3 in the first period and was up 4-0 and never took their foot of the gas. Not appologetic at all. The Hockey Gods got even on November 29th when AHA Holy Cross came into town. The 53ed worse team in College Hockey handed it to BC at home.

What is really disgusting about BC, however, is the color of their uniforms. It reminds me of dried puke.

As a BC season ticket holder (Football) I can tell you that the only thing more disgusting about BC than their uniforms, are their fans. Boston is a great professionsal sports town/area. BC has a strong fan based comprised as much from the local population. The BC fans are the same local fans that show up for the Patriots or the Celtics or the Red Sox or the Bruins. Despite rules to the contrary, the BC stadium is littered with empty bottles of booze and garbage after every home football game. Not a good place to take your kids. Its like sitting in the old center field bleachers at Yankee Stadium. BC Athletics is a business. It has the same look and feel as a professional sports francise. They make no bones about it at all, its all about money. This is the NC$$ at its worse. Academics are nowhere to be found in BC athletics. That is why it is so sweet that an ECAC team that puts academics first, as we all do, can defeat a Professional Hockey Farm Club.

Beware of the BC Fans in Phili. If they cannot make it to the urinal, they will relieve themselfs in stairwells and their aim is not that good.
