2012 summer girls hockey college camps

Re: 2012 summer girls hockey college camps

Really? A local team will not have ice over the course of the summer. Most local teams don't have goaltending instruction. Most coaches don't know when a goalie's balance is on or off, or if they are even square to the puck to begin with. Goaltending at this age is about repetition. Repetition is muscle memory. Repetition, repetition and more reps on top of that. And having someone who knows when the reps are on, and when they are off to oversee the whole process.

We have ice all summer, and MANY places have ice all summer and have coaches. I do not know their situation it was a suggestion. Do all teams have this, NO, some do, example a former men's DI goalie that was just asked to help out and he did. It's not just reps it has to be purposeful practice and again muscle memory is a misnomer. Your muscles do not have a memory. You can and need to make neuroplastic changes but it is not muscle memory.

If they have no access to ice nor a team then do the best you can and that does not mean several camps. One, two, ok but spend the time getting stronger and faster.

I would echo Hux and suggest further that for a freshman goalie exposure should be a distant second consideration behind development. Look for a weeklong goalie camp and supplement it with a local coach. Your daughter could go to Rinksport which I agree is great exposure, but even if she shows well, she's only a freshman and the college coaches who work the camps and watch the games are looking at girls that they can recruit now. Getting exposure for a freshman could be a lose-lose scenario. If she plays great nobody will notice because she's too young. If she plays poorly she will for sure get crossed off someone's watch list. Maximize her footwork and technique and then get the exposure thing going.

I think your daughter can improve her goalie skills by joining a good hockey training center. I would recommend Rick Heinz Goalie School because it is recognized throughout the world as a leader for providing outstanding goaltending training and instruction.
