2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

SNC went 3-0 vs. UWEC this season. Since 1994, the Blugolds are 1-43-3 against the Knights. Game over? To paraphrase Lee Corso, "not so fast my puck-loving friends."

First, UWEC was up 4-2 vs. SNC during their last meeting at Cornerstone. SNC mounted a great comeback but it had to leave a bitter taste in the Blugolds' mouths. They had 'em and couldn't finish the deal.

Second, I'm told EC is getting healthier.

Third, they obviously are playing well to knock off River Falls. (And the entire SNC nation thanks you, BTW). Gotta be a boost of confidence.

Fourth, it's one game not a best-of-2, 3, 5 or 7. The shorter series always favor the underdog. A hot goalie can always steal you one game.

Do I think EC will win? Well, no. But I don't think SNC can just show up and expect to win.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Got to be frustrating for Coach Freeman and his team seems to unravel under pressure. Not how you start the season but how you end as usual. He finally gets a win at Green Bay and ends with nothing.

Shows you that the national rankings don`t mean a whole hell of alot to other the NCHA teams.

Pointers under new coach may have achnace to get to championship game, Saints don`t seem to have a home stand edge this season.

Glad Stout came on strong when it counted they deserve it after a disapointing season.:D

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Should be a really close weekend. I think EC can give SNC some problems, but I'm still expecting SNC to advance. As to the other semi, UWSP and CSS are playing at the same level right now. Stay out of the box and it's anyone's game. If CSS picks up 5 power plays, I'm picking them to win.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

I haven't done the pickem game, so I will post predictors here:

SNC beats EC 5-2 with an ENG at the end.

CSS beats UWSP 2-1.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

I see the game will be televised locally on WACY.
Just finished cookie baking - stop by section E after the first period to grab one before they're gone!
They're endorsed by Derozier.......

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

12 years since Point has made it to this game. It's about fricken time.

They really took it to CSS, despite the shots in the boxscore showing a CSS advantage, it was never close. The lines seem to have established themselves, and despite the weakened D-core, they are avoiding the collapses that occurred early in the season. Jaeger seems to have the hot hand right now, so I'd think he'll get the nod in net.

I'd expect the Point faithful to show up with a large contingency in the corner, possibly even spilling into the section next to the students. That should create an atmosphere, as it seems, generally, the SNC fans need a catalyst by way of the opposing teams fans to create some noise. Should be fun.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

Point was looking good on Saturday. I'm really surprised CSS totaled more shots. The biggest difference I noticed was that they didn't get lazy and were beating the Saints to almost every puck. Bodes well for them in the championship, although I still think SNC will take it.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

To me the Point @ SNC game will come down to:
1 -- Point staying out of the box.
In last meeting (2/9), the Pointers committed 12 penalties and the Knights converted on five of nine PP opportunities.
2 -- How will the Point D hold up against the Knight offensive pressure?
3 -- Which goalie will have the 'hot' hand?

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

I like all of Pete's points. Goalie is always a given. If Point doesn't play disciplined I don't think they have much of a shot. I'd like to see SNC put some pressure on the Point defenseman to see if they can generate some offense that way. I was a bit disappointed in Saturday's game when I consistently saw 5 Knights below the face off dots in the defensive zone. I thought they let Eau Claire's defensemen off a little easy in that regard. They had quite a bit of time to make decisions. The strategy didn't require Jacobson to make too many tough saves but I thought they packed it in a little too much at times against a team they could outskate.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

I plan on reverting back to my days of belligerence for this special occasion. (In the name of good sportsmanship of coarse ;) )

And since I sit in the first row of section B I plan to stand forcing everyone else to stand as well. Maybe they will make some noise then.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

In checking ticket availability on line, it appears that the CCC is over 80% sold out for Sat nite.
Good tickets are still available especially in Sections I, J, K, M and N.
Plus, I am sure standing room would also be available.

Re: 2012 NCHA Peters Cup Playoffs

As of 8:00 AM today, roughly 150 seats remain to be sold. Plenty of standing room available.
Looks like we are in for one of the biggest CCC crowds in the past several years!!!
