2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Cornell's Locke Jillson is also a Gamblers alum.

No. He played Indiana and Des Moines in the USHL but not GB, according to the internet hockey database. I didn't even recognize the name from those two teams, frankly. I don't think he played for GB

Anything definitive on Zucker's injury yet? All I've heard so far is the classic "upper body injury" which could mean anything from a sore shoulder to missing an arm.

“@RomanStrib: Looks like Zucker will play Fri. RT @Russostrib: #mnwild blog update on Nick Palmieri's demotion; Jason Zucker update *http://t.co/HLJKmTXJ”

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

I was in GB last year for RPI, UND, Denver, and Western Michigan. When we got out there to rent the car, the car rental agent said "There are three things to do out here, and two of them are closed for the winter." Plan to spend alot of time at Lambeau. The restaurant in Lambeau is delicious. Take the tour. You don't need reservations, just get there early. You can't do a Lambeau Leap, but if you are a Giants fan, I recommend that you NOT wear anything that shows it. :D

That's too bad that the car rental guy said that. But some ideas...

* If you're a gambler, across the highway from the airport is the Oneida Casino, with all of the requisite gambling, buffet, bingo, slots, etc.

* For history buffs, particularly WWII buffs, try the National Railroad Museum. A wide variety of trains, including Gen. Eisenhower's command train from WWII.

* Part 2 for history is Heritage Hill State Park. It's a cultural museum/park about the history of the region.

* If the weather stays nice (it was close to 80 here today), and you want some fresh air, try the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. Lots of trails, rescued animals - sort of a minizoo. You can feed the geese. A nice place to the take the kids.

* There's a mall about 2 miles south of the Resch Center called Bay Park Square, but the better shopping experience is Fox River Mall about 35 minutes down the freeway in Appleton.

Try greenbay.com for more infomation on attractions, events, and so on.

How about ****ing on Lambeau Field? That seems like a good activity! :D

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Ugh... DU again? I like seeing a variety and they were here last not to mention they are evil after last week ;)

I'll be up there for the Friday games but can't make Saturday due to previous plans... For this traveling in be sure to try some spotted cow and real cheese, none of that Kraft crap :)

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Wonder why that is. I've never seen anything definitive on whether or not the #1 seed has a say in what time they play.

I know Brittain is coming off an injury and maybe I'm putting too much weight on one game (last year's Final Five championship)...but even seeing Brittain's performance against UMD recently...how is he NOT the #1 goalie?

Sam has been building back up to full speed after missing most of the season. He's only been back since late January/early Feb. My gut is that he'll start Friday and if DU gets the W he'll back in against the BIG...........RED! :D The reason I say this is that our D corps is seriously depleted (played with 4 D most of Saturday). Having Sam in net would give the overworked D corps some additional confidence. He's played in two NCAA games as a F.

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Before today I didn't know there was a Big Rapids, just thought it was what the locals called Grand Rapids.:o :o

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Trivia Tidbit:
DU's David Makowski and FSU's Scott Czarnowczan, both sophomores, played for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) which captured the Clark Cup (playoff) and Anderson Cup (regular-season) championships in 2009-2010.

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

Makowski...that's a name I haven't heard for Denver in a while. He injured?

A little town of maybe 10,000 people at most (not counting the several thousand students) about 100 miles from where the PieGuy follows DU. A rival of ours in hockey at the HS level. Home-grown talent in pucks includes Cody Chupp, who was a star player and captain for Ferris a few years ago. An interesting anomaly to find a D-1 hockey team here, but they were solid this year and I would say caliber of coaching, excellent, probably trumps overall talent level. But potentially a very tough out, even though they were surprised by BG's nice run in the CCHA tourney.

Hope the Pio's are ready to come and do more than show up in Titletown this year. (Yes, the game last year against WMU had them spent and, unfortunately, pretty easy picking for the Whooooux.) Pio's followers out West, please keep us apprised on what you hear about Zucker. Is Bennett a likely go for the weekend?

I'll give a more detailed rundown on food options for visitors during my lunch break. There's no shortage of good options, and not just the franchises that are all along Oneida St.

Last game Makowski played was against Air Force on 12/31/11. The nebulous "upper body" which most assume was concussion symptoms.

I second the RR museum, nice place...but then I'm a rail buff.
GB, any insight on State Park camp areas? The local RV parks seem to start the season on April 15. Won't need hookups for such a short trip, just a state park w/overnight camping/park spaces.

There's no state park with camping right in Green Bay. The two closest are High Cliff State Park (on the shores of Lake Winnebago, about 35 minutes south), and Potawatomi (on the shores of Green Bay) about 45 minutes north in Door County. Map of state parks with links: http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/topic/parks/findapark.html

The main county campground isn't open yet, I don't think. Link to its page:

The county fairgrounds also has some camping. Again, I don't know details:

Maybe the parks dept staff would be of help: (920) 448-4466

Re: 2012 Midwest Regional: Michigan, Ferris, Denver and Cornell

I would invite all who are coming to attend the churches I serve one hour west of GB on Sunday morning after the games (I will be in attendance Fri and Sat).

Here are the links: www.zioncaroline.org
www.peacesplitrock.org

If you are interested, let me know and we can meet up at the games.
