2012 Brice AK Goal Rush: UAF, UAA, NoDak, Merrimack

Re: 2012 Brice AK Goal Rush: UAF, UAA, NoDak, Merrimack

Congrats to Alaska on the win tonight. They outplayed North Dakota for significant stretches of the game, and definitely outworked UND for most of the last 2 periods. The Nanooks kept North Dakota from really doing much of anything, and were able to get a couple workmanlike goals to get the 2-1 victory. In all honesty, Saunders kept the game close, and this one could have been worse than the 2-1 score (at least from a UND perspective). I'm not sure when Alaska and UND will meet up again, but good luck to the Nanooks until then.

Certainly didn't see that coming but I'll take it. In all seriousness, when was the last time UND lost a game in Alaska?

I think our guys took their debacle against Canisius personally. Good to see some spine this early in the season.

Thanks to UND and Merrimack for making the trip. And congrats to the Seapups on a good bounce back W.

Thanks for your comments. UND is a great program and your a great fan. It certainly was a fun game to watch!

Re: 2012 Brice AK Goal Rush: UAF, UAA, NoDak, Merrimack

Nice weekend of hockey! Just got back not too long ago and it was another gorgeous drive. Would have been nice if UAA had showed up at all on Friday. Not much of anything looked good against UND. On the other hand, UND certainly didn't play to their potential against UAf. Hopefully they'll keep that up next weekend when UAA travels to Grand Forks. Merrimack was a good team and its unfortunate they couldn't pull out a win. Either game, they played well enough to win but bad bounces will kill any team. It was nice to see a UAA team that took advantage of those. It was cool to see so many of the Merrimack/UAA guys stuck around to talk after the handshakes.

I'd like to point out that the Fairbanks people that boo when UAA comes on the ice or their All-Tournament selection is announced really demonstrate the classiness of Fairbanks. I'd understand it for students to do something along those lines but for everybody else, it really shows a nice lack of sportsmanship and respect. When people would ask why I'd cheer for Merrimack/UND/anybody playing UAf, this makes up a big part of my reasoning. Anybody can say whatever they'd like to about my opinion but its pretty lousy for an opponent to get booed just for being a rival.

You do realize students sit in other places other than the student section right? You say you expect it from students...there are quite a few people around the arena myself included who sit in another area of the venue. And don't even begin to get me started about the "classiness" of Anchorage fans. I've gone there and been taunted and teased when I've gone down for the Kendall tourney and the Governors Cup games. I've physically been confronted for holding signs up. The Nanooks are booed as well by Seawolf fans whenever they play at the Sullivan so I don't know where you've been but it happens. Hope you're enjoying your Kendall trophy and third place win at the Brice. Can't wait to dominate the Seapups several times next season.

And you say you cheer against us for the reasons you stated. We have our reasons obviously on why we cheer against you.

Considering all the crap I can and do get for being a UAF alum in Anchorage, I'd say what goes around comes around. 90% of it is harmless fun anyway.

And not quite sure I get the whole "UND didn't play to their potential" thing. After watching the replay, UND pretty much got worked last night. Last season, there's no way UAF would have won either of these games.

Re: 2012 Brice AK Goal Rush: UAF, UAA, NoDak, Merrimack

I anticipated people not agreeing with my thoughts about this. In my opinion, UAf showed a lack of respect towards another team and its players. As a fan, I expect taunting and teasing whenever I go to Fairbanks and if I really had a problem with that then I wouldn't keep coming back year after year. But in a game where UAA and UAf aren't even playing each other, I found it rude. More so when the All-Tournament team was named: that should be a congratulatory moment for everybody named to that group. And UAA certainly has people that boo when Fairbanks is around, but that's more likely to happen during the Gov Cup, not when UAf plays some neutral team.

Agree with my thoughts or not, I just don't think its courteous towards other teams.

Even though you admitted to cheering against the Nanooks even when the Seawolves aren't playing them. Yeah ok that makes sense....

I think the lack of sun up in Fairbanks got to him this weekend.

I, too, was disappointed to hear boos when the UAA player was named to the All-Tournament team. But I don't think it's fair to use that incident to make a blanket condemnation about "the classiness of Fairbanks." I'm a Fairbanks fan, and I was clapping, as were plenty of people around me. Any sports event that attracts thousands of fans is going to include some who act badly (even in Anchorage!}. That doesn't mean they represent everyone.

Interestingly, I don't think the players themselves mind being booed at an opponent's rink. My impression is that they like a vocal crowd -- it adds to the excitement, and it's a compliment when the fans think you're a threat and try to throw you off your game by boos or insults.

If it's any encouragement, I root for UAA as long as you're not playing us. (That may have to change when we're in the same conference; sorry.} I think a lot of lower-48 people are very fuzzy about Alaska and automatically believe Alaska teams are weak. Any respect that one of us gets will only help the other.

Ok i'll chime in

SERIOUSLY does it really ********** matter that Allen got booed? No, And i'm sure if you asked him he wouldn't care. If you asked any athlete if they cared if they got booed they'd tell you the same exact ********** thing, I'm with wondering on this one.

GO WOLVES GO!!!

Re: 2012 Brice AK Goal Rush: UAF, UAA, NoDak, Merrimack

I'm an ardent Seawolves fan but I happily rooted for the Nanooks during their eventual win over North Dakota. It's an Alaskan solidarity thing because both UAA and UAF get treated with a blanket derision as 'the other' by many (but not all) of those south of us.

I won't be so eager to root for UAF when they are in the WCHA next year. Having said that I'm very pleased that for once we will get a 'true' rival. Enough with this Mankato rivalry bs.
