Massachusetts Lowell @ Providence -UM-L (I'll bet you a beer, all bear)
I'm developing a mighty powerful thirst, all bear!

Unless Michigan gacks up one ginormous hairball tonight and tomorrow, someone will get a perfect 16. (Unless Wisco and SCSU tie, that is.)

No. It had been done twice before (UpNorthHockey - Week 12 and darker98 - Week 6). Then there have been quite a few times where nobody got a game wrong, but there were ties. I think the reason why were able to get 4 this week was that 5/8 of the picks were for series and not games. We'll see if it happens again this week. I'll probably have the pick'em up for Week 21 tomorrow. It will be 8 series. Week 22 will be unique, and then we'll have pick'em for the NCAA Tournament.

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Weekly Pick'em

Not a big deal, but I was wondering if you could post the positions of those of us in the standings south of the Top 10. I did not start "guessing" until Week 8 and I was wondering where I stand in relationship to the rest of the field points-wise and percentage-wise. If possible, fine; if not, like I said, no biggy. Thanks!

Definitely will. I'm not at my computer that has all the data, but I'll post your position, points, and correct pick % when I get there (sometime tonight or tomorrow).

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Weekly Pick'em

You bastages are cheapening my perfect week. Unc is getting to close to me. :D
Doing it early in the season is far more impressive than doing it late, that is for sure. I may not have made up ground on you last week, but I sure did this week. Make no mistake - I'm coming for you!!:D

I'd guess that this week had the highest percentage of correct guesses this year. Although a few guys appeared to try, and fail, at making up ground, which may have skewed that number.

I'm pretty sure you're right on that. 17 people made predictions. 16 made all 8 predictions. 1 made 5 predictions. Therefore, there were 133 predictions made this weekend. Out of those 133 predictions, 102 were correct. That is an impressive 76.69% correct pick % for this week. I haven't really looked at any other weeks, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is 10-15% higher than any other week.

So I just got to my computer with the data. Here are your stats...

14th Position
118 Points
63.0% Correct Pick Percentage (60-33-11, 104 picks)

If you were to have picked the first few weeks at that same clip, you would have an additional 35 points. That would put you at 153 points, and in second place. However, the correct pick % does not include the holiday week of picks. If it did, your percentage (along with pretty much everybody else's) would have gone down a bit.

No matter how you look at it, you've done very well since week 8. In looking at only those posters who have made 100+ predictions, you rank 3rd in Correct Pick Percentage. Your 118 points since week 8 are tied for 1st with SFIS. Well done, and hopefully you pick the whole year next year! :)

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Weekly Pick'em

Week 21 Schedule...

Similar to Week 20, this week will include 8 series. However, unlike last week, pick the number of games you expect the series to go and the total # of goals scored in the series. Obviously, scoring will be slightly different. You get 1 point for correctly picking the team that advances, 1 point for correctly picking the number of games the series will last, 2 points for correctly picking the # of goals scored in the series, and 1 bonus point for correctly picking all three of those criteria. For example, if I pick Minnesota to beat Bemidji State in 2 games, and that 10 goals will be scored, but Bemidji actually beats Minnesota in 2 games, with 12 goals being scored, I would earn 1 point (correct number of games in the series). If Minnesota were to win the series in 3 games, and 10 goals were scored, I would earn 3 points (correct team, correct goals). And of course, if Minnesota won the series in 2 games, scoring 10 goals, I would earn 5 points (correct team, correct games, correct goals, bonus point). I thought at this point of the season, it would be a little fun, and add a new dimension to your picks. Anyway, the correct look of that pick would be as follows...

Example (not an actual series)
Bemidji State @ Minnesota - Minnesota - 2 Games - 10 Goals

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in here. So, without further delay, here is the schedule for Week 21...

Series:
Robert Morris @ Connecticut -
Ferris State @ Ohio State -
Michigan @ Western Michigan -
St. Lawrence @ Yale -
New Hampshire @ Providence -
Merrimack @ Boston University -
Nebraska Omaha @ Minnesota State -
Colorado College @ Denver -

Remember:
Have your picks in by the drop of the puck of the first game on Friday. Late picks will not earn points.
Anyone can play

Thank you FS23! It has been fun "guessing" this season.

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Weekly Pick'em

Disregarding number of goals, and using your series and pick example there are 4 outcomes:
Minn in 2
Minn in 3
Bemidji in 3
Bemidji in 2
If you pick Minn in 2, it is my opinion that they are ranked above in how close your pick is to the actual outcome, but they are worth 2, 1, 0, and 1 points going down. In other words, if you pick Minn in 2 (a sweep), a split with Minn actually winning a game is worth fewer points than a Bemidji sweep where Minn doesn't win a game at all. Picking a winner in 3 games gives a good progression of points earned. The solution, in my way of looking at it, is to make every win by the chosen team worth 1 point, and the number of games in the series worth one point.

Then you would get:
Picking MN in 2:
Team/games/FS's points/UR's points
MN/2/2/3
MN/3/1/2
BS/3/0/1
BS/2/1/1
and picking MN in 3:
MN/3/2/3
MN/2/1/2
BS/3/1/2
BS/2/0/0
Adding the kicker that you only get the number-of-games point if your team wins the series would make both progressions go 3, 2, 1, 0.

Either way, I'm coming for darker, and all bear will owe me a beer.
