2012-2013: NCAA Rankings - Week 9

As some of you may know, CHW is currently down (might be permanently, but potentially will be taken up by a new host). As a result, they won't be having their power rankings at this time, but I still thought it would be fun to post our top 10s and continue to banter about who we all think are the top teams in the country. And remember, only gutless cowards rip on other people's rankings without posting their own. :p:D:D

My top 10
1) Boston College - The Eagles have slipped up a bit lately, but have had a great season thus far.
2) Notre Dame - The Irish continue their solid play, having won 7 of their last 8, and they are 9-1-0 in CCHA play
3) Western Michigan - The Broncos have had a couple slip-ups, but have always righted the ship.
4) New Hampshire - The Wildcats have faced a very difficult schedule, and despite dropping the game to BU on Thursday, are 2-1-0 against BU on the season.
5) North Dakota - UND looked very impressive this weekend against DU, and it appears that they are finally starting to live up to the preseason hype.
6) Quinnipiac - The Bobcats continue their streak with a sweep this weekend. QU is now 9-0-1 in their last 10, and a perfect 8-0-0 in ECAC play.
7) Miami - The Redhawks dropped their game against LSSU on Saturday, but were 6-0-2 in their previous 8 games.
8) Minnesota - The Gophers are continually getting better...something that everyone around the country should fear. Minnesota plays BC in what should be a great showdown in Minnesota over Christmas Break.
9) Boston University - The Terriers finally beat UNH in their third try on Thursday, and then barely squeaked out a 1-0 victory over Maine. It was enough to land them a spot back in my top 10.
10) Nebraska Omaha - The Mavs split at St. Cloud, but have put together an impressive run in their first 10 games in WCHA play thus far to crack my top 10.

Honorable Mention:
Dartmouth
Cornell
St. Cloud State
Denver
Minnesota State

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Rankings - Week 9

At the beginning of a season rankings and reality haven't much in common. By season's end the opposite is true. It's always this way. Speculating on mid-season rankings is a peculiar but apparently addictive pursuit, perhaps one which involves considerable vicarious self-justification. Why not just let the boys and girls play before we hasten to make value judgments?

1) There is no harm in ranking teams.
2) It is fun.
3) I like to see other people's viewpoints.
4) Similar to reasons #2 and #3, I enjoy discussing this topic with fellow fans from around the country.

My question to you is, why do you join a college hockey forum, and then never post about your favorite team? You seemingly only post negative comments about the sport in a place where you know you will be chastised and be seen as an outcast. Are you a masochist?

Sorry Yale, but no team loses 6-1 to RPI and makes a top 10 that week.

Based on today's PWR alone, without consideration of conference match-ups, etc. the PWR of

1. BC
2. UNH
3. Dartmouth
4. ND
5. BU
6. Quinnipiac
7. Western Michigan
8. Yale
9. Cornell
10. Miami
11. UND
12. Minnesota
13. Union
14. DU
15. Niagara
16. Harvard

... produces these NCAA Brackets
-------------------------------------------
1. BC vs. 16. Harvard
8. Yale vs. 9. Cornell

2. UNH vs. 15. Niagara
7. Western Michigan vs. 10. Miami

3. Dartmouth vs. 14. DU
6. Quinnipiac vs. 11. UND

4. ND vs. 13. Union
5. BU vs. 12. Minnesota

Does anyone think those brackets are fair? Does it point to a flawed PWR system?

hon mention. Miami, and mankato.

As an aside I will miss chw if they do not come back. I have started writing the local sports writers for more college hockey coverage, maybe it will help with no nhl to watch and the nfl season almost over.

If their players take time away from participating in cheating rings, it just might happen.
I knew a guy who was dumb.

HOW DUMB WAS HE?

He was so dumb, he had to cheat to get As at Harvard!

The Pairwise is not a flawed system.

Looking at the Pairwise before February is flawed. Wait and see when there is more data in the formula, then start complaining about the Pairwise. It will all play itself out.

Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Rankings - Week 9

(1) BC: they beat BU who beat Nodak, who beat Denver
(2) UNH: they beat Denver
(3) ND: they beat Nodak who beat Denver
(4) MN: they beat Denver two years ago
(5) BU: they were brave enough to schedule Denver later this year
(6) Miami: they play ND later this year and they beat Nodak who beat Denver
(7) Nodak: they actually beat Denver
(8) WMU: one of their Assistant coaches was born in Denver
(9) Dartmouth: they beat Yale who beat Denver
(10) Union: they only lost to Dartmouth by one goal and Dartmouth beat Yale who beat Denver
