Re: 2012-2013: NCAA Rankings - Week 4

To be perfectly clear, I am not justifying that UND should be ranked higher than MN, but how can it be possible that MN doesn't drop in the rankings after a split (and a close split it was ) with an unranked team....while UND's split comes against the 12th (now 11th) ranked team in the country...and they drop a spot? I know that poles don't mean anything (best thread ever), but I really don't get the logic on this one.

I'm a MN fan, and I'm with you on this one. Not that it was wrong for UND to drop a spot, but that it's wrong that MN is still at #2. I'm not among some of the other MN fans in over-reaction. I still think they are a top 10 team based on play so far. But certainly not #2 in the country. What baffles me the most is that MN didn't receive a single first place vote, meaning almost everyone who voted must have put them at #2.

I'm also with you that polls don't mean **** (especially a month into the season). But even given that, I still don't understand how the Gophers garnered so many 2nd place votes.

I don't jive on trying to rank teams, but just for the sake of putting up or shutting up (so to speak), here's my top 10:

1 - BC
2 - Denver
3 - UNH
4 - Cornell
5 - Notre Dame
6 - Miami
7 - Minnesota
8 - UND
9 - St. Cloud
10 - Union

Others in Consideration: Western, BU

A voice of reason! What this guy said.... Prediction, when ND beats BC on Friday 4-2 they will move up 1 spot or stay put. MN splits with Alaska and moves to #1.

Yeah it's amusing that 2 losses both on the road (good teams have lost in Houghton, it happens) and some have the Gophers all but done for the season. Comical.

oh well, to each his own.

1. BC
2. Denver
3. Notre Dame
4. UNH
5. Cornell
6. Minnesota
7. UND
8. Western Michigan

Thank you to everyone that has voted thus far. For those who would still like to get their top 10s in, you have about 90 minutes left to do so.

NDgolden, you can have the victory Friday night as long as it means a better season for BC in the long-run (as usual).

Not sure why many put Cornell so high. They beat their OCC games CC in 2 close games and CC is ranked 19th in the polls. They don't play as many games and I would like to see them schedule more OCC games against the likes of UND or BC to get a better perspective of how strong or weak they are. For years, the ECAC has been behind the likes of the WCHA or HE.

Cornell came on strong last year, and nearly made the Frozen Four. They returned a huge chunk of their scoring, defense, and arguably the best goalie in college hockey. While the ECAC is not at the level of Hockey East or WCHA, they have gotten better over the last 2-3 years. Union and Cornell are both teams that could win the national championship this season, or at the very least make another Frozen Four appearance.

This season they did beat CC, a decent WCHA squad. They have a game against Michigan, play in a Holiday tournament against Ferris State and either Duluth/Maine, and travel to Denver for a non-conference series. That seems like a pretty **** good non-conference schedule to me. In fact, that just might be the best out-of-conference schedule in the country...certainly better than Notre Dame, Dartmouth, Huntsville, Minnesota, and Harvard (1 game apiece).

Every team is subject to playing a bad game, and it appears that Cornell certainly did last night. However, I highly doubt that I'll drop Cornell out of my top 10 this weekend. They are a very good team.
