2012 & 2013 Frozen Fours Awarded to Lake Placid

Re: 2012 & 2013 Frozen Fours Awarded to Lake Placid

The driving part from a major airport isn't so bad, but the overall expense of flying anywhere near Lake Placid from the West is prohibitively expensive for students (and some hockey fans). I've made the trip to Lake Placid from SNC twice, flying into Montreal and Albany. It's over $550 when you factor in the flights and rental cars. For a long weekend, that's quite a bit of $$.

There's a commutative property going on there... It is also expensive for us to get out there except for those (relatively few) who live close to Boston.

Well, it's expensive for you to get pretty much ANYWHERE. So it doesn't matter where it's held if it's not next door, does it?

For people who live in actual civilzation and can get flights around $200 to major cities with enough planning, having to pay 2.5x that is not fun. Or easy depending on your economic situation (students?)

Elmira to plattsburgh = "One of the most beautiful views of nature you will ever see"? Yay for overstatements!

It's pretty good, but so is seeing the twin cities melt into countryside, and Gustavus Adolphus itself (especially on the top of the hill with the town around it) is decent too.

But there's more of us than there are of you, so the tourney should be in our neck of the woods more often (not always, but like 2 out of every 3 sounds about right)

Which is how I believe they're doing it (as in, I think it was actually recomended to be out west once out of every 3 years.)

Being able to watch games online or on tv from anywhere is pretty sweet nowadays, and definitely lessens the blow for people who can't afford or didn't plan to go.

That's the plan, one year in MSP, two years at LP, and then ...???

Re: 2012 & 2013 Frozen Fours Awarded to Lake Placid

I don't know I still think its funny that a town/village/area can host a world wide Olympic event 30 flipping years ago and hundreds (if not thousands) of world wide events since with little to no issues...but people get bent out of shape when its announced 2 years prior that the Championships will be there. Maybe some of you are new, but it sure beats not knowing till the Sunday before the Semi Finals where you will be traveling to. Try getting a ticket the week before to the Championship game to some small DIII college town. I'm sure most of you would love paying for a ticket into Portland Maine the week before the Finals if Bowdoin had the chance to host....that would only set you back around $500 or $600 for most flights....

I know I have to drive 2-1/2 hours to get a flight that will set me back around $325 to Minny this year. Yet its only around $275 from Minneapolis to Albany had the Championships been at Lake Placid this year. Its an outrage. They should have had it in Madison where its only $200 to fly.

I'm trying to build the Frequent Flier miles on Southwest to get to both Frozen Fours for free. BWI->Midway->MSP.

FYI - retirement is 12 days away...

Re: 2012 & 2013 Frozen Fours Awarded to Lake Placid

I think the FF should just run constantly. Every day. All year. With 70+ teams we can run a minimum of 17 at a time and can rotate host sites between the backyards of every poster on the DIII forum.

Eventually, once enough FF's have been held there will have been at least one per poster where said poster didn't have to do something outlandish like get in a car or on a plane.

Do we have to provide Vitamin Water Revive, or can I make Genny Light my official tournament beverage sponsor?
