2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

So for non-con games next year, BSU will have:

The Gophers in Bemidji
North Dakota in a home and home
St. Cloud State, more than likely on the road based on the other three games at home.

Now, if there is an Alaska trip in the mix, that would mean another 2 to 4 home games. The last conference schedule had BSU playing both Alaskas over a holiday break, so that would be four games. But that was before Alabama-Huntsville was admitted and a new conference schedule may be in the works.

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

Congrats to Andrew Walsh on being named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for his two games against UMD!

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

If someone can refresh my memory - what was the reason for building an NHL sized rink instead of an Olympic?

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

Former Beaver Matt Read will be out six weeks after tearing some rib cage muscles in the game against Pittsburgh the other night.

Hopefully he heals up faster than that as he was leading the Flyers in goals, was third in points and was averaging over 18 minutes a night playing on the PP and PK.

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

This was posted over in the New WCHA Part 3 thread; Bowling Green has released their WCHA Schedule for next year.

http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2013/2/23/HOCKEY_0223133651.aspx

BSU will play at Bowling Green on the final weekend of the year, March 7-8. They will only play the Falcons once.

Also, UND has released their unofficial schedule. BSU will host North Dakota on Friday, January 17 and play in Grand Forks on Saturday, January 18.

Also, BSU will host Minnesota and play at St. Cloud for non-conference games.

Looking at the Bowling Green WCHA Schedule, it looks like each team will play one team in a travel partnership home and away and play the other team in just one series. If that is the case, BSU will play Alabama-Hunstville, Bowling Green's travel partner, both home and away next year. With this type of arangement, the schedule will balance out in a four year cycle.

If this logic holds true, BSU (and all WCHA teams) will make at least one trip to Alaska every year. Once out of the four year cycle will all teams be required to play two series in Alaska.

BSU will also play Mankato home and away next year.

So, in summary, what I think I know so far:

-Minnesota for two at home.
-St. Cloud for two on the road.
-UND at home January 17, BSU at UND January 18.
-Mankato for two on the road and two at home.
-Huntsville for two on the road and two at home.
-Bowling Green for two on the road (March 7-8).
-At least one series in Alaska.
-Because of the series in Alaska, BSU will have two more non-conference games they can schedule.
-A combination of six WCHA games between:
----Alaska-Anchorage and Alaska
----Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan
----Ferris State and Lake Superior State

So it is slowly coming together.

Re: 2012-2013 Bemidji State Beavers: We Are Staying Put

Yes. It has been pretty dead in here this year......

Not too much to be active about since December.

I hope there will (is) a scheduling agreement with UMD, too. Attendance-wise BSU needs to bring in Hockey East scheduling agreements - would be great to see Maine, Vermont, BC/BU in Bemidji - and hopefully not Atlantic/ECAC teams. I know competition-wise the new WCHA will be good for BSU, but not-so-much local interest, season ticket and walk-up wise.

I hope there will (is) a scheduling agreement with UMD, too. I know competition-wise the new WCHA will be good for BSU, but not-so-much local interest, season ticket and walk-up wise.

I thought I heard that UMD was booked solid for the next two years and that was why nothing could be worked out with BSU, but I could be wrong. I am not sure if the SCSU contract is an extended one, but "The Minnesota Tournament" setup is, and the UND contract is an extended one. If SCSU is, that is six games right there, leaving two more (with the Alaska exemption) to fill most years. I don't think anyone really knows for sure if you can get an additional two games for playing both Alaskas in Alaska. If so, that would be an additional two games one year out of the four year WCHA scheduling cycle.

Winning will put butts in the seats. They showed that with the CHA in the John Glas, and I think it can happen at the Sanford Center. But, I think there will have to be some "giving" on the ticket prices. I don't see them getting $25 minimum for the new WCHA series, especially after Ticketbastard tacks on another $8-$10 in fees if you order through them. Luckily I had contacts in Bemidji that were able to go to the box office and pick up my single game tickets when they went on sale, that saved us over $200 in fees.

What were tickets that last year at the Glas, $16 or $18?

I also think they will have to get more creative on packages. For my family, a Saturday Season Ticket package would have been great this year as we just have to hard of a time making Fridays anymore (2.5 hour drive and the oldest getting to school age). Maybe some three/five/ten game packages?

I think the new WCHA can be successful in Bemidji with proper marketing.
