That's downright criminal. Completely moronic.

I agree - it's a travesty Burns and Freddie the Fog aren't in.

Tweeted by Bob McKenzie:

No Fred Shero/Pat Burns in builders. Compounding error(s). Only reason not to put Burns in now is to say last year's snub wasn't a mistake.

OK, somebody clue me in here. Why all the fuss about Burns not getting the call? Pretty good coach, sure, and sad that he died before his time, but the cold hard facts are that he won one Stanley Cup, and needed the pre-lockout Devils' garbage hockey to do it. Where's the uproar to get Mike Keenan in the Hall?

Burns won the Adams with three different teams, took the Habs to the Cup final in 89 and the Leafs to the conference finals in 93 and 94 before winning with the Devils.

His overall record (501-353-151-14) compares with HoF members Punch Imlach (423-373-163), Al Arbour (740-537-223) and Roger Neilson (460-378-159-3). Neilson, by the way, never won the Stanley Cup.

Keenan should get consideration as well. One Cup win, one Adams trophy and a career record of 672-531-147-36.

Nieuwendyk is a "Hall of Famer"?

So basically for the foreseeable future, we're going to have one Ciccarelli type in each class who racked up a crapload of points in the no defense era, played a bunch of years, and was never considered an elite player?

;)

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Is there a player out there with 1,126 points who isn't in the Hall of Fame? Not to mention Nieuwendyk won two Cups.

Adam Oates
Dave Andreychuk
Pierre Turgeon
Phil Housley
Bernie Nicholls
Vincent Damphousse

have more points and are currently eligible. He was a key piece to the '99 Stars cup, and a supplemental piece on the '89 Flames and '03 Devils' runs. He never broke 95 points in a season despite playing in the 80's.

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Howe = this year's Ciccarelli. He was a pretty good offensive defenseman, but he played in the goal-drunk 80s, and never quite won it all. Feels a bit like he's riding daddy's coattails there.

With all due respect to Nieuwendyk and our resident Cornell grads, it was probably a little premature for his induction, but forwards who chip in well over a 1,000 career points and have their name on the Cup three times will probably get in sooner or later.

TSN tweets that the Bruins have emailed asking if anyone is interested in Kaberle.

The NHL/NHLPA is looking into Nashville's qualifying offers on O'Reilly, Halischuk, Spaling and Kostitsyn for possibly missing the deadline Chicago style. Not Weber, though, so everyone can zip their pants back up.
