Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

You could swich Colorado and Winnepeg. The problem is that the distripution of the teams makes it that some unfortunate team(s) in the Eastern Time Zone is going to get stuck in the Western Conference. No way around it.
The only solution is to eliminate the timezones completely.

No thanks, we hear enough whining about Eastern Bias WITHOUT everyone having to base their clocks on our time zone.

What makes you think that the rest of us would agree to that?

Re: 2011 NHL Off-Season: The Puck Boat edition

Too bad they aren't in the eastern timezone...if they keep 6 divisions, Nashville or Columbus make the most sense. If they go with 4 divisions, Columbus or Detroit makes the most sense. Winnipeg would not be happy if they aren't in the same division as the Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton.

As I believe others have pointed out, no matter how you do it, there are gonna be a couple teams that are in the "wrong" division based off of time zones. Again, I think this is a mistake by the NHL. The six division format is much easier to break down. Based on the limited information on this realignment, I tried doing things based off strictly east/west location and then proximity to other teams. There's no perfect solution. Winnipeg is closest to Minnesota and I believe is closer to Chicago/Detroit than it is Vancouver. Plus, all the Canadian whiners would be happy because it would give them a chance to get more Canadian teams into the playoffs.

Yep.

Some notes:

* Bieksa reups with the 'Nucks, 5yrs/23M

* Flyers trade Darroll Powe to Minnesota for a 3rd round pick in 2013

* RFA's had to be qualified today by 5pm Eastern. If not, they become FA's on 7.1

Edit: Montreal has a number of RFA's, and some names of those NOT receiving qualifying offers are starting to leak out (Alexandre Picard, Tom Pyatt). Benoit Pouliot will be an intriguing decision.

Benoit Pouliot, the man picked one spot ahead of Carey Price, not qualified by the Canadiens.

Daniel Carcillo not qualified by the Flyers.

I don't want to like another Sunbelt team, but with an NMU alum on it, and these recent trades, the Panthers are looking better. They can't be that much more screwed up than ATL, can they? :D

And while Vancouver is an okay team to watch, I don't know if I can like them. At least I'll likely see a sh*tton of CCHA'ers on the Wolves now. :D

I am debating between Edmonton or Florida as the "team in progress" that I want to keep an eye on for the next 2-3 years (not necessarily secondary fandom though).

I'd definitely pick Edmonton if they end up doing a second season of "Oil Change".

Amstel Light looks for the Bruin who ordered their beer at Foxwoods.

It's time to 'fess up. Which one of the Boston Bruins was the only person to order an Amstel Light during the team's celebration after winning the Stanley Cup?

Yahoo is reporting that Amstel Brewery wants to know who that one brave soul was so that they can properly pay tribute.

According to a statement from the company, "We want to reward the Bruin who ordered the Amstel Light to recognize him for making a great decision."

The Bruins spent over $156,000 celebrating their Stanley Cup victory over the Vancouver Canucks at SHRINE at the MGM Grand-Foxwoods Casino. Out of all the booze purchased, which included a $100,000 bottle of champagne, one person bought one Amstel Light. In return for bravely ordering what nobody else would, Amstel pledges that if the player steps forward, the company will provide free beer during his day with the Stanley Cup. They also pledge to stock the player's Fourth of July or Canada Day barbecue.

Great HoF class: Doug Gilmour, Ed Belfour, Joe Niuewendyk and Mark Howe.

Killer finally getting in!

Can't understand why Pat Burns was denied again.
