If the Twins were going to trade him, they'd better get a solid player in return that fills a need. The most obvious need is in the bullpen, but you don't give up a top-two starter in your rotation to address that issue.

So they were talking about the Johan Santana trade on the radio, so I decided to look up what we got out of that deal.

*The Twins got Deolis Guerra, Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, & Kevin Mulvey from the Mets.
-Guerra is playing in Rochester.
-Gomez was traded to the Brewers for JJ Hardy...who was then traded to the Orioles for Brett Jacobsen and Jim Hoey.
-Phil Humber became a free agent
-Kevin Mulvey was traded to the Diamondbacks for Jon Rauch. Rauch then left through free agency.

So right now we have two minor league pitchers and a borderline major league pitcher. Granted Johan hasn't done poop in New York, but still.

Actually Johan has performed well in NY, minus an injury stint.

2008 - 234.1 IP, 16-7, 2.53 ERA
2009 - 166.2 IP, 13-9, 3.13 ERA
2010 - 199.0 IP, 11-9, 2.98 ERA

Obviously the win total isn't spectacular but part of that is the Mets being an awful offensive team. But his starts are as good or better than anyone the Twins had in that time span.

Morneau is playing in a game right now, he is actually back playing. Granted it is a spring training B game, but he's still playing in a game. Hopefully he is back and ready for opening day.

2008 is the year that matters, since that's all they'd have out of him had they kept him 'til he walked away. They also would've gotten compensatory draft picks. In hindsight, they probably would have done better going that route.

Which is exactly what the Brewers are contemplating with Fielder...draft players we want in the first and supplemental first or get stuck with B rate players. The only way the Twins would have gotten screwed is if the Yankees signed Santana and other A Free Agents like what happen with the Brewers and Sabathia...what a joke.

Twins open @ Toronto on Friday, April 1st.


We should know right away how good we are, April has some good tests in it.

It was fun watching the Twins come back from a 3-0 deficit today in their Ft. Myers finale. Two runs scored in the bottom of the ninth. Our Bums are better than Pittsburgh's. Once the replacements started they were committing errors left and right. Fun game regardless, though.

Now for a couple against Atlanta in Atlanta, and then the season will be underway!

When was the last time the Twins had a good series in Toronto?

Seems like they always suck there.

7 ER in 4 IP. Yuck.

Toronto has more runs (8) than hits (6).
