2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

North Dakota State is the only true Division I national champion.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Didn't watch 1 snap of the game last night. After seeing the highlights this morning, I am happy I made that decision.
Agreed. I checked the score online at one point and it was 15-0 and my first thought was yet another game where no one is scoring a touchdown, though one was added late. What a shambolic system that two teams can play twice, split the series, and somehow one is national champion. But, the BCS has been a mess so many years and hasn't gone away, so I don't expect the powers that be will care they have another piece of evidence on their hands as to how bad the BCS process is. And to think, Bama was fractions of a point from being 3rd in the BCS rankings and not in the title game. One can hope that someday such things will be decided on the field.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

Even worse. If it was a Plus-1 system, the game would be Alabama vs Oklahoma State.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

I realize that the final poll, other than the #1 spot, is just window dressing, but Stanford at #7? They beat USC head-to-head and no way should BSU be above them with their schedule, so that should be up to #6 in both polls. I'd even argue #5 over Arkansas, since Arkankas's main achievement is losing to two top teams and Stanford can brag the same, but I guess Arkansas gets an SEC bonus.

I don't see the problem..................?

The Plus-1 system IMO gives everyone what they want.

Having to be top 4 keeps the regular season games and the mystery of the BCS system intact. I know we all hate it but the arguing is great for ratings.
Having a 4 team playoff avoids the issue of this season entirely. Alabama gets to stay in but OSU doesn't get locked out.
Having Plus-1 allows them to keep the Bowls the way they are. They just assign 3 BCS Bowls to 4 Teams.

I don't see the downside, especially when they'll never approve a real playoff. Even if they went with an 8 team playoff you'd have the same level of whining you do now it just moves from #3 to #9.

Re: 2011 College Football Part II: Bowls, The Rematch, and Recruiting >Tebow

That its still Alabama playing. :p

LOL. Yeah, well, whatcha going to do? You had two sick college teams playing in the same division in the same conference. If Stanford or OSU hadn't laid huge eggs during the year one of them would have knocked Alabama out of the title game.

Is that true if the Broncos beat the Packers in the Super Bowl too?

This is a red herring, IMO... Yea, #9 will whine about how they are better than #8 or #7... But in the end, they aren't claiming to be #1.... Arguing that you deserve a chance to be there and being declared the winner are two different things... Yes, it's impossible to win it if you are not in it... But in all likelihood, those #6-10 teams are going to have blemishes on their resume... They will most likely have key losses to conference foes... The only time reason this argument holds any water is for a BSU or TCU type of team where their ranking is a result of a "weak" schedule... And even then it will be high subjective as to how good those teams actually are...

I feel like its more of an Ignoratio Elenchi than a Red Herring. :D

The +1 coming out now is hilariously awesome to me. As butt-farkingly awful as the ACC has been, at least they were with the SEC in suggesting this back in 2008. Too bad it took the SEC taking *both* title slots and for every bowl, including the mighty Rose, to fail to break a 10 in TV ratings (because we all figured out that the games are meaningless) for Delany to get the ironwood out of his *** and finally support it after rallying to kill it four years ago.

Tell me why FCS can do a playoff again? Must be they don't take classes like FBS schools
Yeah, classes like Underwater Basket Weaving!

What highlights??

Didn't watch any of the game either. Just sat around on facebook watching everybody else **** and moan about how bad the game was. Crying out loud people, there's other stuff on TV you know.

This was more entertaining than the so-called national title game. WWE fans will get it.

You know what, screw it, I'm sold. SOMEBODY CALL MY MOMMA!
Yeah, I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day tomorrow. Just what I want to have there when I got my elbow in somebody's glute. :p
