2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Older UNH fans, I posted on the UVM thread about my favorite game vs. UVM at the Gutt...please read and share any of your thoughts if you go back that far......post here I suppose :o)

I've seen some great games between UNH and UVM over the years and even though UNH holds the advantage in the all-time series the games are always entertaining. I particularly remember UVM coming to Svively with Tom McNamara in net and wondering if we were related since my last name is McNamara also. The odd thing today is that his son Tom and my son Tom (yes they are both named Tom McNamara!)played high school hockey together and are still best friends. I know my UVM friends point to a game in '78 when Cap Raeder came out of the net and Randy Koch scored an open net goal to win the game. I think the game was in Durham.

Wish I could be at the game tonight but my daughter is playing rugby for St. Michael's College for the league championship against AIC today.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

That's a scoop. Hope everything is okay. He seems like a great kid, and his presence will be missed. Him and TVR have been looking pretty good together.

Who steps in? Chevrier or Randall? My guess would be Chevrier.

Was in the Portsmouth Hearld on Friday, wasn't sure if he would be back for the game, I have really liked the way he has imporved every year, might be my favorite player right now. He has played wtih TVR. Would be intersting to see who they would put in, would think Chevrier to, but Randall has some excprience with TVR so that might be in his favor. Either way here is jopeing for another big 2 points.

First games I ever saw UNH play live were against UVM, at the Whitt. UNH won 2-1 and the second game was a 2-2 tie.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but the game tonight should be streamed free on UVM's site.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Really disappointing result tonight. Cats came out flying and totally dominated the first ten minutes. Then the parade to the box began and before you knew it was 2-1 UVM. They made it 3-1 before UNH came back and took the lead. The last minute goal to tie it looked really weak, but DiGi may have been screened.

UNH just dominated this game when it was 5 on 5, but Madore really stole the point for Vermont tonight. If not for him this one probably would have been a 7 or 8 to 3 win for UNH. We only had the one PP tonight and scored on it. The PK was pretty good killing 5 of 6 UVM chances.

Despite the sucky outcome, it was overall a great effort tonight. If we can play more disciplined we can do a lot of damage. Lot's of reason to be confident going into next weeks games.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Great effort by the 'cats last night. Lowell was unimpressive based on the hype. Thought the Kipp call was iffy and 5 minutes was ridiculous. Speelman separated shoulder?

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

According to the Twitter world it's looking like a dislocated shoulder, broken wrist, and concussion.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

Just out of curiosity, how has Jay Camper looked in the action he's gotten this year?

Not too bad, when he isn't getting into penalty trouble :) Scored his first goal against Maine two weeks ago. Didn't play last night, but with Speelman injured, may play tonight against BU.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

The lost of Speelman will be a tough one to over come, but I look at this way, its a great chance for one of the young guys to really step up. I would like to see Trush on that line, have really liked what I see out of the kid and like to see what he can really do. Should also give Camper a chance to crack the line up and show how good he can be, and hopefully plays smarter seems like he sometimes plays on the edge and then goes over and could end up costing the team, but if he stays on the right side he has a good upside. to. It seems like there was a lot of juggling of the lines after Speelman went out and seems like everyone has good chemistry with each other which I think has added to the balance scoring attack. If this injury was a month ago I would be more concerned about it, but the boys are getting better every game so I think they will be able to shake it off and continue to move forward.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

I watched the game last night and the game against UVM and they looked very similar. Five on five, they dominated all night long. They kept UML/UVM to the perimeter all night which kept DiGi from having to make the big stop. He really just had to be steady and not shoot himself in the foot. The PK was great again and our PP although not scoring a ton at least generates chances, unlike in past years. I grow ever more impressed with TVR every game. Guy just seems to make the smart play whenever he's out there. And how good is Casey Thrush going to be?

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

sorry e.cat for the tardiness but that game you spoke about with Cap was in 75...at the pool end of Snively, Cap goes to the corner to play the puck, it jumps over his stick and Kock does score the winner...Cap was critisized for weeks on that play.....great game, huge win for UVM....as for tonight vs BU, I hope BU is still playing the slow UVM game and we do as Nifty16 says keeping the play to the boards and limiting the quality shots.....I saw that UMass-BU game, so we can do that as well....

UNH flipped 8 pwr points with UML in win last night. Yeah, I know, pwr does not mean much this early in the season, but it still amazes me what one win can do.

I was really impressed by the five UNH frosh last night; will be needed without Speelman, and Kipp?, tonight? The 90 sec of 5-3 pk was superb, although those calls were awful.

Looking forward to my second game at Lake Whitt next Saturday night. Cannot believe that these games are not selling out.

Re: 2011-2012 UNH Wildcats

They really didn't play that poorly tonight. Gotta stop giving up soft goals and need to bear down in front of the net offensively, but they took it to BU for large portions of the 2nd half of the game in particular. Had some decent chances early in the game and missed the net on every single one. Might have gotten themselves off to a better start if they could have put a few of those chances on goal instead of high off the glass and around the wall to start BU breakouts.
