2011-2012 D3 FHL Official Thread

We are a few weeks away before we open up the official start of the D3FHL season, but I thought we should open things up with some ideas and suggestions on how to make next season better and more fun.

The Points:
- Unless USCHO changes their format, it will still include all of the same. But would you like to see more points added for certain things, or take some away?
- Are the goalie points fair?

The Draft:
- We will still have a draft, and the last overall point getter *who returns* will get first pick.
- Should we allow each member to retain 1 or 2 of their players from the previous season?

The Teams:
- Only allowing certain amount of players from teams/conferences made for some diverse rosters. Made more work for myself, but it seemed worth it.
- Keep team management (amount of players, teams, conf, trades) the same?

The Players:
- Was the "free trade" weeks a good idea? It helped with no show players, and goalies being outed for that starting job. Should we have more free weeks?

Expansion:
- It is possible, and could be done if we had the members to do it. We had 20 last year, I would like to see 24. Makes things easier when it comes to Conf weeks, but will eliminate two Non Conf games.

The Schedule:
- There isn't much we can do with this. Except get rid of the exhibition week and make it another NC week. I assume the first games will get underway Oct 21st and 22nd. We will take the week before and of Christmas off again as there are no games (normally). Looks like a 20 week schedule. 14 Regular 6 Playoff weeks. Of those 14 you would have 10 Conf games and 4 NC if we went up to 6 team leagues.

Thoughts?

re: Goalie points.
Saves are a function of the statsperson and in D-III they run the gamut from outstanding to ***. Anything to do with shots on goal should be discarded.

Win (x points) Tie (.5x points)
GAA
Points (goals or assists) <- they do get them once in a while.

do you give negative points for biggie penalties (Games and DQ's)??

Re: 2011-2012 D3 FHL Official Thread

Goalies: Good point on the save %. If you get rid of the save % it takes away the big advantage of the goalies weekly points.

Wins/Ties: I'd rather not get into the .5's

Goals/assists: if it was added to their goaltending line I'd consider it (uscho people??) But if not it means I have to check their player stats too. Just like they don't get credit for penalties.

Penalties: would love to but that would mean going through each box score, too time consuming.

2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie.

Keep 2 players if you want. Declare ahead of time and the keepers replace your second round picks.

Keeper in the lexicon of fantasy sports means for the purpose of continuity you get to retain some of your players. But I think you know that and are just thrusting a fishing pole in the bicycle spokes :D

As a father of a (former) collegiate goaltender, when somebody says "keeper", I think netminder (and high equipment costs).

Bicycle? I think I remember how to ride one.

And again I say, I have never in my life heard the word "keeper" applied to a goaltender. I've heard it applied to a goalkeeper, which is a Soccer position, but never to the equivalent hockey position.
