Ben Guite signed a one year deal with Columbus today. It's good to see he's still in the NHL.

I think its a good sign inasmuch as you can't hire someone LESS qualified than the interim you are replacing. Right?

Well, with the rumor I heard about Baldacci  seeking the UM presidency, I doubt he'd keep Abbott around as AD. So, yes, you can... :(

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

He made one mistake and it cost him. Guys who have played defense all their lives made just as horrible errors last season and seasons past as well.

Until then, he'd been playing very well, far better than you could have expected him to, and better than a few of the regular defense guys.

I agree with you about him,in general. He stood out in the 5 games or so I watched in person.

But the Maine D as a whole needs a lot of work, and Who TF knows what we have in goal these days..As loaded as Maine appears to be up front,it could be another long season if they don't improve dramatically in their own end.

Is it because we have too many offensive minded guys on D as they represent a fair share of the team scoring? I think it it just a matter of balance, defense pairings, or the guys playing a better and smarter 2 way game.

The tin foil hat is a little too tight Maineiak. Go back to watching Glenn Beck and forget about the baldy rumors. :p

Now, you know I don't watch GB simply due to the timing of my commute. But I have adjusted the tin foil hat, thanks for the tip. ;)

Re: 2010 Maine offseason: a lazy summer on the Stillwater

if Maine loses that second quarterfinal game in overtime to lowell then everyone would have though the season was a disaster. .

There are a few on here who recognized that even though Maine finished tied for second, that they were only a couple wins out of 9th, and out of the Hockey East playoffs.

The league was coin flip from second to ninth, and BC was pretty good, and 10th place was pretty lousy.

That said, I saw somewhere that Blaise macdonald did NOT have high hopes for this past season, he had hopes for the season before, when so many of his great players were one year away from going pro... he said that this past season, all of the good ones were spending all of their time thinking of ways to spend their money. (I paraphrase)

A lot of it is the Timid Tim system where no one plays the body or clears people out from in front of the net. Corrolary to that is that none of the guiys we've recruited for defense play that way, except possibly Nemec and Pryor.

So you got a coach who doesn't like or let his d-men play physical, recruiting d-men who don't play physical.

Can anyone up there confirm whether the latest plan includes ice-making capabilities and sized for a 85x200 surface or not ?

The seating capacity is set for 5,800 according to the article, which is not that much bigger than the Alfond's official seating of 5,450. Would be a good venue for any games held when students are on break.
