Platty has played more games against teams over .500 who have also played other teams over .500...Midd beating Amherst the other day would have helped them out. And River Falls tying a sub-.500 team hurts them.

Platty is 7-2 against teams that were at .500 or better at the time of the games UWRF is 10-0 against teams that were at .500 of better at the time of the games. And, in the Rutter poll ST Norberts (7-8-2) is ranked 23 Buff ST (7-8) is ranked 43

are you really that shocked? Plattsburgh's rating is .0222 higher than River Falls, which I believe in this poll is pretty insignificant, considering that RIT is 1.158 higher than Plattsburgh.

As for the Plattsburgh/WRF discussion below, as was mentioned, the two teams are virtual tied for second due to the very close ratings (2.21 vs 2.19). The WRF tie with St. Norbet is almost as bad a loss due to the large difference in rating. The effect of ties are worse for the higher ranked team the further the difference in rating for this model.

And then when RIT and Platty split and UWRF sweeps then UWRF will be #1 and then we can hear all of the complaining about that. Calculated ratings by themselves are don't mean much IMO because they can't take into account things like hot goaltenders, teams having an off game or luck. Good tool for rating teams but should be used along with other subjective factors and actual observations

IMHO, rankings should be based purely on objective factors. Calculations, pure and simple. Then the "subjective factors" you mention (i.e. hot goaltender, bad night, injuries, etc) are what make for entertaining upsets :)

I'm not sure how much 2 games would affect the ratings. With how far ahead RIT is they'd probably have to lose both games for anyone to move ahead of them, and if that happens it would be Plattsburgh.
