2009 Polar Bear Tourney

Re: 2009 Polar Bear Tourney

....... Also the Canadian teams are sorely missed.

As I mentioned before, for Canadian teams this tournament is no longer an attraction partly due to the fact that there is better competition at home....

At U17 AA there is one Ontario team at PB, OHA Midgets. They are considered weak back home at U17, and here they are making it to the quarters.

At U14 AA all four Ontario teams participating made it the to the Quarter finals.

Club hockey in Ontario is strong and deep.

Any tournament of this size is an awesome experience. Perhaps even moreso at the younger ages than at 19AA!

While my daughter was home on break, she came upon one of her old tournament sweatshirts which had several team names on the back of it. She noticed that one of the names on there was one of her current college teammates. Aside from chuckling about this, the finding brought back fun memories of this tournament which ultimately we participated in for 9 years.

By the way, many of the retold stories had NOTHING to do with hockey!

Superfluous from a recruiting standpoint? Probably....but at least for us it was yet another venue for quality family time.

To the Polar Bears, most sincerely......
Thank you for the overpriced admission, thank you for the inconsistent officiating, thank you for attempting to weaken your own division to ease your path to the finals, and thank you for the overpriced hotels. Because for all of the awesome experiences that we have had and remember, we have them despite all of the aforementioned criticisms which in fact are not remembered so clearly by us, other than the constant reminder that we see on this board.

To all the complainers, take the 3 minutes that it took you to complain on this website, and do the following instead.....

Go down to the lobby of your hotel and grab an unused luggage cart. Then, tell your kid to get on, and push her into the elevator, stopping at each floor to push her up and down the length of the floor, perhaps even knocking on the doors of friends as you go for the ride. You'll be your kids hero, and you too will find that it was worth all of the perceived aggravation that is so commonly vented here.

:D

Hmmmmmmmm, it is readily apparent that not only is the copious consumption of Whoopie Pies detrimental to one's waist line, but also to one's state of mind.

Well if you are so pro-Canadian and anti-American :

I will say that is how you come across!!!!!

Why do so many of your kids want to play hockey at a GOOD OLD USA college.

I have nothing to do with the Polar Bear's tournament or any affiliation.

R you referring to my posting ?.

Am I Canadian...Yes
Do I cheer for the Canadian National team...Yes
Am I anti American...Not even close. My wife would suggest the opposite.

I visit the Good Old USA often. I can sing their national anthem verbatim. I'm actually there/here as we speak. I once lived in Europe during the cold war days (60's,70's), and we would always cheer on the Americans in events overseas, as long as they were not competing against our own native sons and daughters. It was the Americans and the Canadians who freed us from the Germans in WW2. My parents who lived through it, always reminded us of that.

When I crossed the high security border the other day, the first question was...Were you born in Canada... A: no...When did you become a Canadian Citizen...A: 1979....Why did you come to Canada....A: My dad moved there....Why are you going to the US.....A:To watch my kids play hockey...What position does she play....A: D....When was the last time you were in the USA...A: Two weeks ago....How long are you staying...A:T'ill Thursday.....Open the Trunk (inspection follows)........Here is your passport.....Good Luck and have a good day...A: Thank You.

WOW!!!! A little over the top, don't you think? OnMAA was simply stating that the overall level of competition at the Polar Bear is not what it used to be and that there is overall stronger competition closer to home for the Canadian teams to play over the holidays.

Re: 2009 Polar Bear Tourney

Seriously can someone start talking about the teams and who looked good...any fun upsets, great individual performances etc.

Re: 2009 Polar Bear Tourney

Just looked at results at 19AA - NAHA White and Assabet Red play in one semi, Polar Bears and Charles River play in the other.

By the way, the Alliance Girls College Prep, TX team NoGo was writing about earlier in the thread only lost to the Polar Bears, twice (once in round robin play, once in quarters), so I'm sure it was worth the trip. If the scouts are not showing up like many years ago, still good for some competition for some teams.

Check your rep for the other part of the story.

Oh my goodness. What a surprise. Do you think it will be an Assabet vs Polar Bear final? (for about the millionth time?) Go NAHA! Go CR!

2009 PB Tourn...19UAA Final Set

Assabet Red Major and NAHA White tied 1-1 and ARM won in a shootout. In the other semi, CT Polar Bears defeated Charles River 4-0.

Looks like Assabet Red Majors are in every AA final except 12UAA.

NAHA has been denied once again the one title they have never won (correct me if I am wrong with this). Assabet eliminated NAHA a few years back in a thrilling 1-0 final at the CT PB tournament playoff game, with NAHA outshooting AV by a 3 to 1 margin but still came up short.

I know NAHA lost in the final to Assabet last year too, but I don't remember the score... 2-1? 3-1?

IMHO its not about who the PB plays, its about how it affects the other good teams. PB always puts NAHA, Assabet, TI/Mission, etc. into the same brackets, and whoever gets the second most points in those divisions end up going home, while patsies in other divisions get wild card slots.

Re: 2009 Polar Bear Tourney

The Assabet-NAHA semifinal game was one of the best HS girls games I've ever seen. Up and down, chances, posts, OT and then to go 15 players on each team deep for the shootout, great entertainment!

Re: 2009 Polar Bear Tourney

What I want to know is why for example in u17aa Assabet with 19 points ( ahead of sherbrooke and PB with 18 pts) doesn't play the 4th place lady ducks in the semis.
