2009 Hackett Builders Hockey Tournament

Re: 2009 Hackett Builders Hockey Tournament

My question is why is Buff St. going all the way to Adrian and not even playing the Bulldogs? I know Buff St. isn't really a quality Eastern team, but they are an Eastern team. Not to mention St. Johns played Adrian last year.

The tournament's schedule may have been finalized last spring, before the MCHA was awarded their AQ. I'm sure Adrian wanted to play the in-region teams to bolster their out-of-conference-in-region record...

I'm guessing Concordia and St Johns traveled further. If I remember correctly from the women's games last year...Concordia to Adrian is about a 20 hour bus ride one way

They can only get teams that wish to accept an invitation.
Oh come on! We all know Adrian can make whoever they want come to the tournament. They only force the lower level teams to come so they look good in the eyes of USCHO posters, the only people who matter in D-III hockey.

Re: 2009 Hackett Builders Hockey Tournament

As far as I'm concerned, Concordia can come here and play every year if they like. During the first game I, among others sitting with us, had the opportunity to chat briefly with the Concordia coaching staff. Great group of guys. Enjoyed it very much.

Last night I said that they had to raise their game to stay with Adrian. They did. Adrian wasn't the neatest team in the world tonight, looking sloppy at times with the passes and such, but Concordia played a much better game than they did last night. Adrian dominated the shot totals and scoring chances, but Concordia played a nice game all the same.

As for the first game, Buffalo State did much better than I thought they would, hanging with St. Johns the whole way, dropping a 5-4 decision. Buff St. took two very ill-advised penalties at the end of the game, giving SJU a 5x3 for the full two minutes. The Johnnies cashed in on both penalties, and that was the difference. While both penalties at the time were warranted, it's disappointing that the CCHA referees that are used to working Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and the like have to make themselves such a part of the game. It happened again this afternoon.

i'm just a fan, but I want to say "Thank You" to the three schools that came to play this weekend. I had my reservations about Buffalo State, but they gave a very good account of themselves this weekend. You can also say the same about St. Johns and Concordia. Good luck, guys.

Did Adrian actually pay all the travel expenses and jazz for the teams that came as was advertised?
