I'm not putting too much into the loss. Anytime a team plays without their best dman it hurts, and in unh's case, kessel is y far their top D, so it really hurts. Also, a trip down to rpi for 1 game is fairly taxing. Hockey east teams get spoiled when it comes to travel, so even though its only 4 hours away, it is something they aren't used to. On the encouring side of things, rpi's goalie played well, and all of unh's top guys seemed to generate offense. Pete leblanc put 6 shots on net, 90 percent of the time that happens you walk away with at least 1 goal. They will be fine, one thing I'm not a fan of is their 3rd line. Doesn't seem like a shutdown group or energy group at all. I'm a huge steve moses fan, ut for the better of the team I'd toss paul thompson on that first line, he's a better finisher then moses. I'd drop moses down to a line with borisnuk and block, for a energy line.
Also, our forwards have a tendency to “dance” around the offensive zone looking for the prefect play. We need to shoot the puck..get are rebound.
Note no coaches at practice until the morning of the game, based on NCAA rules.
This is not true. NCAA rules limit the length of time coaches get on the ice with players prior to the season(Oct. 3 this year) on a weekly basis. During the preseason, coaches get a certain number of hours to spend with the time in a given week. Almost every practice I watched in the two weeks leading up to Acadia, coaches were on the ice.
From Foster's
UNH will host Acadia in an exhibition game Saturday night, the first official day of practice. The Wildcats have been engaging in captains' practices for the past three weeks.
Umile also said the coaches were only involved for 45 minutes on 3 days the week before but only for streching and observation no instruction or something like that. I don't know the exact rules but it was very limited coaching involvement - essentially none.
I think its essential that this program follows all the rules to a T...
That sounds pretty accurate.Agreed.
My father heard Umile talk about what the coaches were allowed for involvement prior to the first offical practice. The allowed contact was very limited, he didn't remember all the restrictions discussed. I was told the rules allowed upto an hour but they were holding to 45 minutes. My extrememly filtered information sounded like observing.
What happened to the UNH hosts Miami thread? Cannot seem to find it, was it removed?? Couldn't get enough of that one!![]()
Maybe Mr. Umile can sign this kid up:

I was kinda wondering the same thing. I was curious as to redhawkman10's response to my post disproving his theory that a slow start would doom a team to completely missing the NCAAs. Apparently it was to delete his thread. He's a quick one, indeed.
Moses will be back on the first line with Leblanc and Butler.
Kessel has been practicing this week and should be back as well.
"We definitely generated chances," Sislo said, "and we should have capitalized on more of them. ... We need to get pucks to the net more and have people around the net that's how you're going to generate most of your goals. They're not going to be the pretty goals. We want to just focus, I think, on getting in the goalie's eyes and getting pucks on net and getting the dirty goals."
From Foster's
This is what this team is going to need to do to score goals. Now I just want to see them do it. The style they need to play all year is about grit, giving up the body and hardwork.
That is easy to say (Sislo's comments), but it seems its been awhile since we have seen that kind of play in Durham. Let's hope they really mean it and actually follow through with it.
