Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

Cats drop from 7th to 10th in both polls. No big surprise there, but nice to remain in the top 10. Hopefully UVM learned the lesson every team needs to learn, if you don't come out and play you will get beat no matter who your opponents are.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

Polls don't matter - they only go to your head. What matters is wins, particularly against teams that you should beat.

Any news on Milo's status?

Couldnt agree more.

One big game against Maine this weekend. Let's see what team shows up.

Anyone know how to get video coverage from Maine? Am thinking of going up to Portland and see if I can get the local network in some bar......

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

The game is on WABI right?

Is that a Portland channel? I presume it is not carried on Dish or Direct TV?

Funny how a bad loss like last Friday kills off the bandwagon fans and there is little action on this thread this week....

I still expect relatively significant lineup changes on Friday. He breaks up the freshman line and plays some different fourth line forwards possibly.

Milo coming back would be helpful to improve depth.

Time for Marshall to step up. He's been pretty much invisible for over a year now.

I also would not be surprised to see Franzon play.

you can get video feed on Maine's website through Maine all-access, looks like the option is a monthly charge of $9.95 just make sure you cancel your subscription after the game or within a month or you'll get charged each month until you do. $10, less than a ticket to the game although if you are in southern NH and you do find it's on in a Portland bar, maybe a better social option...maybe the topless donut shop carries that station.

So a team 50th in rankings with a lot of wins will recruit just as well as the number 1 ranked team in the country that lost to all the bottom dwellers ?? Sorry I am going to disagree with you that polls and rankings don't matter.

Love this rivalry with UML!!! You gotta have a rival in a league. Didn't think it was going to be Lowell when we joined HE but it works. I wonder if it goes beyond the message board to the general fans and to the teams.......yet??;)

I was wondering the same thing. As for the general fans, I'd say no. As for the players, probably yes, particularly if any of them read this board, which I've heard some do. UML looks like the new Dartmouth.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

I highly doubt that the players put any stock in the three or four UVM and UML posters going at it. I would not call that a rivalry.

Polls may help a little in recruiting but I think there are a lot of factors that are a lot more important. From what I have seen in recent years, UVM plays worse when they are high in the rankings and better when the feel disrespected. It must be that human nature competitive thing.

I would like to be at the BU/UML games this weekend. They should be good games.

Hopefully the Cats play a much better game at Maine and come away with some needed points.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

Rivalries are generally built on playoff battles, so the UVM players SHOULD have some real animosity toward Lowell after last year's playoffs and SHOULD be very fired up to beat Lowell going forward.

Unfortunately, there is way too much lip service paid to things like this, cliches thrown about, and then the players go through the motions.

There will be no excuse for UVM not playing very hard against Lowell in both the regular season and post-season. At least this season.

If not, the rivalry sounded good and certainly got the fans going. I hope it will not be just the fans that care!

If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that Sneddon will have his team prepared to play hard. All of the animosity and overwhelming disdain aside, most of us at UML genuinely like Coach Sneddon and think he's as classy as they come. Second favorite coach of The Ice is Life in all of college hockey.

Nice post. See that wasn't so hard now, was it? :)

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

I think we're going to learn a lot about this year's team tonight. After the embarrassment at Merrimack, it'll be interesting to see how the team responds. It's a dangerous game--although Maine's fallen on hard times, they'll come out gunning. They need a win probably more than we do.

Will Madore be in goal? I see the Cats winning 5-2.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

Again, when do you play Spillane?

I would have liked to see him start last week's game when things were going well for the team and Madore. Now, if Mike gets the start against Maine, people - fans, players, Madore - can "mistakenly" associate Madore coming out with his last "not great" performance. While I don't think Madore will be fazed by that, he seems so darn mentally tough, it would have been better, certainly in retrospect, if Spillane played last week.

Nevertheless.

On the other hand playing Spillane may light a fire under Madore. Sneddon basically saying hey Rob, the number one job isn't yours automatically. And remember Mike went 7-2-? last season, and is a capable goaltender. I would like Spillane a lot more however, if he would stay in the **** net. A good puck handling goal tender is one thing, but I can not count the number of times I have seen Spillane get caught and then be saved by the Defense. God when he ends up in the corner with the other team right there its freaking annoying. But other then that, he is an excellent first save goalie, to many big rebounds but that first save is almost always there. But, playing Rob also may give him a little confidence to in that Sneddon understands that a bad outing is a bad outing and that's it. So who knows.

Re: 2009-2010 Official Vermont Season Thread

Tough call on who to put in net tonight. I guess I would go with Spillane if it were my call. I thought Madore played poorly in the Denver loss and he clearly did not have a good night at Mack either so that's 50% off nights to far. Why take a chance on another right now....

bummer to hear that Milo remains out indefinitely. They were saying 3 to 4 weeks a month ago so it must be more serious than originally thought.
