2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Any views?

I'm always of the opinion that if one can do the job, the opportunity should be available. If a women can play in a men's league, under the same rules, there should be no complaint.

That said, outside of goal, I think that an increase in female skaters would draw a similar reaction often seen when women enter the firehouse, or the issue of women in infantry/combat arms units (minus the life/death issues, of course).

There is a skepticism that the female can do the job physically, and in both cases, there is a similar question as to whether men would jeopardize the mission...or the game in this case...to protect a woman.

Now I know that it's about a former player but here is a link to an article in prohockey news about women in Mens leagues.

On a similar note, with the tremendous evolution of the women's game over the past decade, how about trying to phase some sort of checking into the game?

Maybe people like DC would have some more insight into this, but what possible reason is there for not doing this?

Heard from a very well placed US source that US and Canada wanted to introduce checking into the women's game but the other IIHF countries staunchly opposed. So, for the long-term growth and health of the game, it was not pursued.

The original World Championship featured checking, and it was decided after the event that it wasn't a good idea, for either the play, or the appeal and growth of the sport.

Out of the secret pouch in DC's sling! ;)

The merchandise booth. More are on order and should arrive for next weekend's tilts with Quinnipiac and UConn.

Magnets and stickers are in, and will be available during both games this weekend at the Merchandise booth:D

Re: 2009-2010 New Hampshire Wildcats Season

Nice game by the 'Cats. The young'uns are adapting well to the D1 game; very few jitters in their first test against an NCAA team.

Lavoie and Farris are really impressing me. Lavoie is big, fast, and shows a lot of skill. Farris just looks smooth and natural out there...kinda like Birchard after the move to D last year.

UNH came right out and established control of the game, and were it not for the rash of penalties to close out the 1st, I think they would have potted one. They probably SHOULD have netted one on their first PP opportunity, as they had 3-4 prime scoring chances.

I can't fault Minton on the goal she gave up. From where I stood, it looked like it took a weird deflection off the UNH defender.

The Allen from Lavoie goal was a beauty....perfect pass.

Can't wait to see how the yoots handle back to back D1 games.

A very impressive debut for the youngins, a highly skilled group to be sure. :)

Mr Video, Phil Kincade has posted video of today's game highlights, including comments from Coach McCloskey and Captain Kelly Paton.

A bit sloppier today, but the 'Cats still came out on top.

The frosh really are a talented bunch. Loved seeing Kaley Herman get a point in initiating a great scoring sequence. The passing has looked very good this early in the season.

Bring on Aqua Fresh and the Scurvy!

I think this team will be quite formidable once they gel. There is a good mix of extremely talented youngsters and upperclassmen with a lot of experience.

Better than that, the team appears to be having fun.

The fellow could easily double as Craig McTavish.

Before reading the caption, my thought was "what is McTavish doing at UNH, scouting for the Oilers" :)
