Axios has posted an article saying there’s a deal in place to end the shutdown but it reads like a rehash of the article I posted yesterday.

Hopefully I’m right that this is just the same unnamed source fishing the story to another outlet, but if it isn’t…

If this true they phucked us...but no one seems to know for sure. Smells like they are testing the waters to see the response.

No ACA subsidies is an auto loss and I wont vote for a Dem that backs this.

As of now its all the reporting from weak sources so...

Manu is saying the Dems are meeting tonight...

We are boned. The base is going to rebel. I legit wont vote Dem again if they take this deal. They get nothing and the people get screwed.

Tnis is why the Congressional Dems are less popular than the GOP.

Such shocking names. Sounds like Fetterman too.

Here’s what I think is happening

It gets government workers paid thru January. A vote on ACA subsidies in December (likely fail, just in time for ACA premiums to skyrocket in January and have a full year to bake the electorate into an angry mob). And we get to do this again in January.

I’ll be honest, that doesn’t seem terrible and it helps the government workers who are *really* hurting right now.

Its stupid, the vote will lead nowhere and Trump gets an easy win. The Dems played this game last time and it hurt them.

Federal workers arent begging for a bad deal. Last time they wanted a shutdown now their sacrifices again will be for nothing. There will be zero change or improvement and Schumer will have zero leverage in the next negotiation.

The deal is so bad friggin Klobuchar is railing against it.

We played this game like 4 months ago. The Dems have 4 Aces and are folding. The voters hate them for just this reason. When The GOP is hated and you are hated more do something else.

Eh, they trade who gets to be the bad guy on these votes so just because Klobuchar is against it publicly doesn’t mean she’s against it in principle. Until she proves otherwise, I give her zero benefit of the doubt.

Otherwise yeah, the framework seems to be that they are going to give direct Trump Bucks to people in some sort of FSA/HSA (unclear) instead of keeping premiums down. Which is interesting because you can’t use SAs to pay for premiums unless there’s a special carve out in this bill.

Just all around fucking insanity if this is what they concede. Fucking hell. It’s Covid cash all over again.

But all of that said, all this does is kick the can down the road for a January/February showdown. Someone called this deal a sort of “halftime” for the battle.

There’s also talk of the farm bill being passed in the meantime which would take SNAP off the table as a leverage point for republicans.
