Their small hands fit so well into the looms and jennies. https://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1450814489209806851

Um ... I think you misread or misinterpreted that.

Instead of a tax credit (dollars off tax obligation, filed for on the return) folks are now getting a direct payment.

But that payment will have impacts come filing time. That's really going to mess some folks up (end up paying instead of usual refund?). If people are investing it, good, they may need it on April 15.

Guess we need to get rid of that income tax deduction for kids too. Can't be having any of that nasty socialism in 'Murica.

I think the only one misreading or misinterpreting is you.

Show me where in L'il Marco's oh so concerned tweet where he mentions the possible tax implications of the policy?

No, he's just raging cause people are getting money just for having kids. Those lazy, do nothing drags on society.

That's the fucking point.

Oh those poor, poor families making $150,000 a year! SAD! WHo also have several pathways to resolve it both before and after they file.

Taxpayers who receive more money than they are eligible for will report the excess amount on their 2021 tax return as additional income tax, reducing their tax refund or increasing how much they owe the IRS. If taxpayers owe, the IRS has said it can work out an installment payment plan with them. It is also waiving repayment obligations in some cases.

The agency will send taxpayers a form in January 2022 detailing how much was disbursed to them during 2021.

To avoid repaying the credit, taxpayers can update their personal information â?? including changes in the number of qualifying children you have, income and filing status â?? with the IRS through the agencyâ??s Child Tax Credit Update Portal. Taxpayers can make changes throughout the rest of 2021.

Parents can also opt out all together using the portal. For those who are married and filing jointly, both spouses must unenroll. Below is the schedule of the last day to unenroll each month.

I don't think that's much of a burden in exchange for nearly eliminating child hunger.

"<insert thing here> is socialism" is a lazy as hell, but unfortunately works with the morons.

My favorite is when you list all the countries who are doing better than we are in quality of life with far more leftist policies to demonstrate how socialism is superior to capitalism, and they claim "those aren't socialists, they are capitalist." And then in the next breath when you say fine let's adopt those policies they scream "THOSE POLICIES ARE SOCIALIST!" And they're too fucking stupid to even recognize they are contradicting themselves.

Conservatism would be hilarious if it wasn't so lethal.

So manchin now saying he has exit plan to leave the Democratic Party.

shocking

I know what Rubio is saying and he's being, as some have said, a pure "... is socialism" wonk.

The French Rage comment read like he thought youths were being kept from work. What else does "Their small hands fit so well into the looms and jennies" mean if not kids working, but the $300 keeps them from work on "looms".

This isn't about child labor at all, but a reconfiguring of what was a tax credit to a direct payment. (If I misinterpreted what Rage said/meant, I'll own that.)

It's better to be a direct payment. It's a fully refundable credit. I'd rather someone didn't have to wait 12 months to get money to pay for food.

Rubio isn't a wonk, he's the antithesis of a wonk. Wonks are passionate about policy to the point of being total dorks about it. Rubio is a wimp who got disemboweled on the national stage by the political equivalent of a New Jersey mafia goon.

I agree with your point about money now at the grocery store is better. < snark here about IRS monitoring $600 transactions >

May I reserve full opinion until folks file their taxes (and see if/how some get unexpected tax bills, see my prior CNBC link)?

You can, but that is mostly for families earning $150k or more. So, they can screw. I'm not worried about them.
