Manchin now says he won’t vote for reconciliation unless the Hyde Amendment is added to it.

The man might be the most powerful player in government and he’s using that to… keep everything exactly the same.

Fck Joe Manchin with a rusty tire iron for everything he has done to stick a poisoned finger in the whole process. Sinema too. They can both switch parties and lead us all over the cliff into fascism for all I care. I am out of fcks to give.

Sinema looks like Velma from Scooby Doo had a midlife crisis.

Should've picked a DOJ with teeth in hindsight. You could go leak a quiet investigation into Sinema's campaign finances and Manchin's daughter at this point. Stuff might start might flush loose at that point.

Did you just advocate using the DOJ as a political weapon? (You're not supposed to say it out loud.)

No, you're just supposed to do it while all your cult members and apologists, and self-proclaimed "libertarians" make excuses for what you're doing.

Cause, you know, both sides.

I am shocked that republicans voted against relief for Afghan refugees.

since they screamed so much about getting them out and all.

And they only screamed and pretended to care because it was Biden that did it.

Wee Donnie One-term's plan was just to pick up and leave, just abandon those who helped us for 20 years, and the Repubs would have been perfectly fine with that.

Just pulling out worked with the pornstars, why not Afghanistan, too?

That is pretty inaccurate...or at best ridiculously misleading. Each side of this stupid fight can die in a fire. Manchin and Sinema are scum and the Progressives are doing what they always do, which is why they never have power and always lose to the mealy mouthed Centrists. Principles above everything...why get some of what you want (and do what the actual fucking voters want) when you can get none of it and look stupid while doing it!? They happily talked about how the adults are in charge now and then go about acting like 12 year olds being told they can't go to Di$neyworld.

Meanwhile, because they both care more about preening for their TV spots than what is actually happening they are both just making it easier for the Fascists to take back control because the people want the bipartisan deal AND Reconciliation. Now they get neither because one side is corrupt and the other is so dumb they don't even trust and easy victory. They best hope COVID kills another couple hundred thousand because guaranteed Dem vote totals go way down in '22 and '24.

This was not the hill to die on for the Progressives. They don't look good to anyone outside of Progressive Twitter and well, most of them are not exactly politically savvy or knowledgeable. (hOw cOmE bIDen hAsnT eNdEd fILiBuStEr?!?!?!?) And if they don't win this (and they won't...in fact they have probably killed Reconciliation now or it will end up exactly how Manchin wants it so this is all for naught) they have spent all of the clout they think they have and lost. It just boggles the mind...

The ironic thing is, they are better at preventing their own agenda from passing than they are preventing the Fascist's agenda. It is truly astounding to watch. It is like watching a coach know his team has no passing game but has an A+ RB against a team with no run defense but he refuses to run the ball just to prove the point he is a better coach. (we call this "Mike Martz Syndrome")

As a Progressive myself I find their actions way more disappointing. Manchin and Sinema are doing exactly what they have said they will do...the Progressives are cutting off their nose to spite their face. They are folding a winning hand looking for something bigger and instead of strengthening their position in the Democratic Party (a Party they should fucking control) they will end up in the exact same position and will face the wrath of the Law of Unintended Consequences in 2 and 4 years.

Except in this case, the Progressives are fighting for the linked Infrastructure/Reconciliation package, which is what everyone in both houses agreed to, and what Biden wants done.

You pass one by itself, and the other dies, and will likely never stand a chance of coming up again.

I myself prefer both. The House and the President also prefer both. But without the Senate, that and a dollar get you a cup of coffee. I understand the importance of not taking just Infrastructure from the get-go as you lose your negotiating position, but at some point when every strategy has been tried and it it still fails, you have to take something to show. I can't pretend to tell you where that point is, but it needs to exist somewhere.

And if you block it you get neither. The link aint happening because Manchin and Sinema dont need it. (The fucking President can't persuade them let alone their constituents) The game is rigged and everyone seems to get it but The Progressives.

You can't beat people who are this openly vile and willing to take the heat for it: https://twitter.com/NoLieWithBTC/status/1444032835531182080

JUST IN: Kyrsten Sinema has left DC amid negotiations. Her spokesman says it's for a doctor's appointment "for a foot injury." But a hotel just confirmed she will be at her PAC’s retreat with donors for cocktails and dinner at a high-end resort and spa in Phoenix. (@nytimes)

The Progressives are playing chicken with people who have no problems getting into a car accident. It is the same game they tried against Trump...when people don't have shame or care what anyone thinks they will do whatever they want and laugh when people get angry. All that happens is you look foolish and end up in a worse position later to bargain.

You don't continue playing by the same rules when the game changes. You take what you can and then fuck them later.

This. Hell I think Reconciliation is light and should go for everything fuck the Parliamentarian. That is a losing fight though. Sometimes you have to just accept you only can get so much...

If the political climate was normal I would be 100% behind them. (I voted for Bernie twice for a fucking reason) But no bill is worth the fallout that is likely to come. This is about more than just this bill...

Saw al Franken tonight. Had some great Ted Cruz stories. Talked about how Dems never message well.

klobuchar was in audience
