But the party has changed, at least to some extent. GWB would never demand this absurd cult-like level of loyalty. Nor would any other President or Presidential hopeful. I feel like Trump has truly perverted the party. Sure, the foundation for "this" was there, but it took a catalyst to start the chain reaction. Trump was the catalyst.

No. The GOP was on this path ever since Reagan took it over. All the elements were there. Rabidly anti-intellectual populism. Iron links with Plutes. Religious lunatics.

The Republican party started down the path to authoritarian white supremacist nativism in 1978. Dump was just the next turn of the wheel, he was nothing new.

Somehow I’m sure this will make gaetz more of a hero.

remember when he taunted another Florida politician for drug use in a hotel?

https://mobile.twitter.com/KevinMKru...38398186876945

And he wrote it off as a campaign expense...

My fave response:

While hiring escorts and snorting cocaine may not, at first blush, seem like conservative Christian "family values," Joel Greenberg says Matt Gaetz always shared both. And sharing is a Christian value, right? Glory!

Yep. Say good night, Matty.

I hear they think real highly of that in prison. But, hey, with your charm...

A Florida politician considered key to the investigation of Rep. Matt Gaetz agreed to cooperate fully with federal prosecutors and, if needed, to testify in court, as he admitted in a lengthy written plea agreement that he paid a minor to engage in sex acts with him and others, according to a copy of the document filed Friday.

Joel Greenberg, a former tax collector for Seminole County, agreed to plead guilty to six criminal charges — including sex trafficking of a child, aggravated identity theft and wire fraud — which come with a mandatory minimum sentence of 12 years and a statutory maximum potentially decades longer.

In exchange, the prosecutors agreed to dismiss the other 27 counts Greenberg faced and recommend a term within federal sentencing guidelines, which are often far less than the statutory maximum penalties. They also agreed to recommend other possible sentencing breaks, especially if Greenberg provides meaningful help on other cases.

Cuz they just do that, you know, for fun.

I'll believe he's toast when he's actually drummed out of the GOP ranks. They circle the wagons for their members regardless of what crime(s) they committed. They're gonna need a lot more evidence than testimony from a guy looking for a lighter sentence.

I hope so but these guys and their voters have no bottom. If they can say Biden wasn't elected and 1/6 never happened they can say Gaetz' GF was a 37-year old chain smoker from Tuscaloosa nicknamed "Gus."

Well they have the Venmo payments. If they were dumb enough to do that I am guessing there is plenty of evidence waiting to be found. The DOJ isnt giving Greenburg a sweetheart deal for just testimony. They aren't the DA of Mayberry...

And again the GOP doesn't need him...anyone running as an R in that district will win hands down. Hell a Dem couldn't win if they were unopposed. ;^) The GOP won't kick him out but they haven't exactly been bending over backwards to defend him either. He is as reviled in the House as Cruz is in the Senate.
