115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

Re: 115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

I'll be completely honest. I don't want new presidents to start going after their political opponents. It's a very dangerous precedent and I'm not sure we want that and all the baggage that comes with it. Nothing Bush and Cheney did has been shown to be criminal outside of Democratic talking points memos.

Dump might be the exception here.

The weed of crime bears bitter fruit.

I am sympathetic to your concerns. Dump is the exception because he is attacking American values and institutions, and our sovereignty itself, directly. This isn't about politics it's about bringing a criminal to justice. In a world in which the GOP was also sincere they would be part of the movement to indict and convict Dump. Unfortunately they deliberately dropped the ball for selfish, shortsighted reasons.

The people who conspired against the US are traitors. The fact that they are intertwined with a political party should not protect them. We have parties because we are a democracy; we aren't a democracy because we have parties. We have to protect our system of government. If that means some or even all the members of a particular party are indicted because they have become a criminal organization, then that's what happens.

The moral is: don't become a criminal organization.

Well in their case it'd be harder to prove but the entire reason we went to Iraq and killed 100's of thousands of civilians was pretty much entirely based on a lie. It wouldn't be prosecuting them for having a different ideology, there's plenty of legitimate justification for it though it's difficult to prove in this instance (not entirely sure how trials work when a ton of classified info is involved).

Agree and disagree. In general I don't advocate such prosecutions. Bush/Cheney had good lawyers advising them, and they would appeal all the way to the SCOTUS before complying with the courts which was their right. However to never prosecute anybody of the opposite party for collusion basically gives a blank check for Republican Congresscritters to cover up Russian influence in exchange for large campaign donations. Nunes and Paul Ryan (essentially his boss - Nunes wouldn't have his chairmanship without Ryan's blessing and he can be removed by Ryan) need to be investigated. If they are actively using their position to thwart an enemy's state's attack against the US, they should be charged and tried.

Regarding Nancy Pelosi, should the Dems win next year not only does she deserve a victory lap for a good career fighting the good fight, but it doesn't hurt to have an experienced strategist in the Age of Trump. Hopefully that'll end in Jan of 2021, which would also be a good time for her to wrap it up. In the meantime, we don't need another Dick Gephardt running the Dems.

Yeah, I didn’t mean for it to sound like carte blanche to commit crimes. Especially against the State. As usual, my post was hastily written and not complete.

There are very few US statutes you could prosecute them under, if any, for the war. The president has wide-ranging powers granted to him by congress. Especially that President.

The question is did they deliberately mislead Congress by rigging the intelligence. The brief answer is: they did. That's definitely impeachable, it's just a question of whether they could do actual jail time too.

Throw in that the war was drawn up years before 9/11 as a business proposal, and I would think there has to be a way for the bereaved to sue Cheney et al for personally benefiting by deliberately going to war under false pretenses.

With sh-ts like Cheney it would be really useful to have an actual Final Judgment.

So they same it's the same district Trump won by 20, does that mean they haven't redrawn the map in PA yet?

The map kicks in in November, so this is for an election for a district that won't exist in 6 months.

Me neither, but how far down do you have to go down the tree until you find a non Medicare qualified D Congress person who can herd cats?

There's nothing wrong with Nancy if she stays off camera.

Re: 115th Congress - Still 100% Roy Moore Free

Speaker isn't meant to be some public popularity contest, it's meant to be someone who works behind the scenes to get stuff passed.
