10/29/11 - Utica Club(bed)? Showdown in Blaine, ZZZ @ the CCC??? SCORES, RANTS!!

Re: 10/29/11 - Utica Club(bed)? Showdown in Blaine, ZZZ @ the CCC??? SCORES, RANTS!

Now back to the game and what really matters. Did anyone else have a better angle on that "goal" or "non-goal" late in the 2nd last night? Or is there video out there of it. It still seems fishy to me and I don't think I have seen Gosek that animated coming off the ice.
when it happened I "paused and rewinded" the fast hockey stream to see if I could figure out what happened - not perfect but I don't think the puck crossed the goal line - only my opinion fueled by old man's eyesight, but it looked to hit the crossbar and come out in a strange way....

That's what I gathered from overhearing the UC coaches as I was in the camera well next to them before the 3rd. :D They seemed to think it was a goal though and the goal judge and I use that term loosely (as he was yucking it up with the UC players as they were going on to the ice before the 3rd) seemed adamant that it was a goal. I think this is grounds for having official goal judges I know that they do during the NCAA's. But I'm sure they (NCAA) are not willing to put forth the money to pay more officials. Plus they put the goal judge in an odd spot at that end of the ice (you just have to see the set up I guess). I mean the guy is in with and surrounded by UC fans. hmmmmmm. Makes you wonder.

I would have trusted his opinion, goal or no goal. If that puck didnt cross the goal line, he wouldnt have ruled it a goal. Plus i dont seem to remember hearing the puck hit the crossbar either. John's been the goal judge at that end of the ice since before i was born. he was an AHL goal judge for a couple of years before the devils franchise left town. People in that job sometimes just have to do the best they can.

Re: 10/29/11 - Utica Club(bed)? Showdown in Blaine, ZZZ @ the CCC??? SCORES, RANTS!

Ok, I trust his objectivity in the job (which is very tough) that he has. But, you still can't say that on close calls like that that you are not biased in favor of your home town team. I'm sure it is like that everywhere. I hope there is video out there somewhere so we can get a clear look to squash the idea of it not being a goal.

I know how hard that they prepare and they try to do their best. I have been around those guys before and respect them for what they do. We know that Backdraft's "criticism" was weak based on what he said, but still in the future let's not go over the top in responses to better forms of criticism.
hey guys like I said just making a little noise while having to listen, instead of watching a good game..all the guys on the broadcasts/radio do a great job and believe me I know, steve levy or Marv,Albert that is ,was a good buddie when I played at Oz...keep up the good work, and yes did anyone get a good look at the ghost goal?? and was gosek giving it to the refs at all during the game? ow yea as also mentioned b4 I dont like the players pleading to the refs either,NOT GOOD, play the game and let gosek do his job

It definitely did come out in a strange way. Perhaps that is why I saw it as hitting the bar as it came OUT of the net. Yes, from my angle (nearest blue line on the side of the Aud with the sin bins) it looked like a goal.

Lost in the shuffle last night was Manhattanville with a nice 2-1 victory over the U-18 team. Two goals in the last five minutes, the first on a 5x3, then on a major PP (that was the first part of the 5x3) gave them the win.

I think this is grounds for having official goal judges ...
The goal judges are official. Do you mean unbiased or neutral? D3 gets the absolute bottom of the barrel on-ice officials. How in the name of common sense do you think anyone will "buy" hiring professional goal judges? Even D1 and minor league hockey has local talent on the switches. It's one call in one game ... it will all equal out eventually.

Even D-1 goal judges have issues, too. At Yost about 6-7 years ago there was a referee (not NCAA) that the Michigan USCHO crew knew that served as a goal judge one night. There was one shot that every one was convinced went into the net. I mean, the band was two lines into The Victors while play continued and the referees on the ice were waiving it off. The red light never went on. At that time, in between periods, a group of us always got together outside one end of Yost. This goal judge joined us. We asked him point-blank "What the hell happened?". He knew immediately what we were talking about, and his reaction was "I don't know where it went, but all I know is that the puck did NOT go into the net". Knowing him the way we do, we took him at face value, while others around us were dropping f-bombs about "that goal judge that (screwed) us". I walked up to one of them, pointed at our friend, and told him "there's the goal judge. Go ask him yourself, because we just did". Not another word was said.

I know it will never happen and makes no sense to them. I know they are "official", but would rather have someone who is neutral flipping the switch.

Wrapping up the MIAC Showcase today

Concordia MN beats St. John's 2-1
St. Olaf edges St. Mary's 3-2
Hamline over Auggies 3-2 in OT

Every game this weekend was either a tie or one goal deficit. As projected, the MIAC looks to be a tight race this season.

I sit behind the net, right next to John the goaljudge every single UC game at the Aud. When that goal occured, it was so fast, unless you were on the ice and knew where the puck was going to hit, its almost impossible to tell at the moment, on the spot whether the puck went in or not. I was convinced and even told john i was convinced it was a goal right after it happend, as the referees were deliberating with the Oswego Players whether it crossed the line or not. I thought i saw the puck hit the top part of the net and then shoot right out. If it hit the crossbar, trust me, me, the goaljudge and the rest of the fans at the Aud would have heard it.

Having said that, I did see video of the goal this morning on the local tv news station and the video looks like the puck went off the crossbar, but then again the video quality is terrible and to broad to really close in on and see if it did infact hit or go under the crossbar.

Oswego, you'll get your chance in a few months on your turf. So no worries.

Your right either way it doesnt matter, the top teams have to overcome those happenings...that said both teams will for sure have a good yr and will meet in Jan and perhaps later on in the yr...good luck..... you now have the bullseye on ya back:eek:

Re: 10/29/11 - Utica Club(bed)? Showdown in Blaine, ZZZ @ the CCC??? SCORES, RANTS!

Like I have said somewhere else on the board, I have moved on just like the team hopefully has. It is what it is and the whole controversy of the goal was just interesting to talk about. Not saying that it shouldn't have counted, but when something like that is so close that the ref doesn't know if it went in makes you just think out loud. That goal was just a case of the play unfolding (and the shot) so fast. Good placed shot by Hertz and was the only way he was beating Hare on that play. Good job by UC all around for that matter on the goals that they got.
