10/24 & 10/25 games

An ACHA team beating an NCAA team... recent history shows it happens, just ask Denver. But not the start Hiram will have wanted.

Will be curious to see if they can make this even a moderate success. A tiny college of just 800 students, the only DIII program in Ohio, a resource intensive sport. But expanding the game is a great thing and the continued shifts involving Canadian talent may trickle down even to this level.

More broadly, I do think the rise of quality in "club hockey" are interesting for DIII schools. While there are lots of factors around academics, cost, cost of hockey, etc., a kid can go play the top level of ACHA, be in competitive games, and potentially go to a big-name university. It may put a squeeze on the bottom-end DIII programs.

UMass Amherst women's ACHA beat the DIII Framingham State women 5-1 this weekend. I would definitely expect ACHA programs at big/more prestigious schools to be at least somewhat competitive if not better than the mid to low end DIII teams at this point.

True the biggest factor nowawdays seems to be money. Most acha teams require team dues from the players and those dues are often 4 digits. On the high end I know the oswego men's club hockey team has dues at around 3k per year. The advantage of d3 is you often get to cut line for "academic" and "need based" financial aid that's totally "not athletic" money compared to the average student. If I'm a kid who's family has the money, yeah I'd rather play club hockey and get to enjoy the place nicknamed zoomass. If my family is not so wealthy d3 might be the best route. Unlike the mens route where they can make a living playing pro in the coast or Europe the girls have a 0% chance of ever playing pro so u might as well go for the better degree and campus life

Wonder what Hiram's goal is long-term for hockey. Obviously it's a good recruiting piece for the school, but on top of the costs already of running a team, the only close team to them is Chatham. If they want a conference, the UCHC might be their only choice and that'll add some hefty conference road trips to schools like Albertus.

From Hiram's schedule, they have neutral site games lined up against programs like Salve Regina and Concordia. It's great that they're getting opportunities to compete with a full schedule, but having to make a trip up to Adrian to play Concordia and having Friday night lights against Salve at.... Penn State..... doesn't seem sustainable to me. I'd like to hope that some other D3 schools in Ohio are exploring programs but who knows whether anyone will follow their lead and what the timeline would be.

Trine and Adrian are also close (by western region standards) to Hiram.
Yeah true. It'll be good exposure and hopefully both teams will put some effort to get a game or two a year against Hiram. Won't help them much for the poll, but would be an easy trip to make and shows some goodwill.
