$1.60 gas , lets go buy an SUV

Re: $1.60 gas , lets go buy an SUV

So, when everything opens back up and we blow through the overstock prices will shoot up to $5.

That's the gamble (from what I heard yesterday): stay cranking through this production level, pay people to take oil this month and/or next month, and be 100% prepared for demand.
Or...
Realize this isn't going to rebound, shut down oil wells, and lose even more money than paying people to take oil if the wells need to be restarted quickly.

The talking heads (or disembodied voices from my radio) said that they're going to do both. Ride out May contracts, see where June contracts go. And by mid-May decide what wells need to be shuttered temporarily or even permanently.

Illinois would like to have a word. $1.89 in the west suburbs, nothing less than $2 in the Chicago city limits that I've seen yet.

RaceBorder can chime in with the south suburbs.

Here's the map.

At the state level, gas prices directly vary with liberalism, as expected. At the local level I'm not sure what drives the variance. Supply chain, I guess.

Wisconsinites, tell me about presumable lovely Baraboo. Gas is 92 cents there.

If you like Meth, Paint Thinner and screwing farm animals Baraboo is for you!

(that is true of most of Wisconsin ;) )

Don’t they still need to buy to make the summer gas? That stuff ain’t inventoried.

It's been in the $1.85-1.95 range around me.

Normally I'm filling the tank (16 gallons) every 3-4 days this time of year between work, baseball and fishing runs. Now I'm just burning about 10 gallons per week...

Local level is city taxes. Just depends on what ZIP code you live in.

That’s not entirely true. It’s partially true. But it’s also heavily influenced based on distance from the nearest refinery, distance from ports, competition, etc. :)

In general, yeah. Gas in the south is cheaper than in the north, IIRC.
Around here, you buy your booze in WI, and gas in MN, if you live in a border town.

Edit: went to a Plymouth store today (494/42nd): Gas: 1.74
By my work 494/Carlson, about 2-3 miles south, still in Plymouth: $1.52
A block from my house, about 5 miles south of work, Minnetonka: $1.79

All the same corporation (Holiday).
