1/26/13 - Valiant efforts? Do Knights and water mix? Giving Pointers? SCORES&RANTS!

Re: 1/26/13 - Valiant efforts? Do Knights and water mix? Giving Pointers? SCORES&RA

Thank you guys, appreciate it!

So just for ****s & giggles, lets say Oswego wins the SUNYAC Championship over Plattsburgh. Can, if they want to bad enough, award the Bid to say Plattsburgh instead, even though they lost to Oswego?

No, they can give Platty a bid also but not in place of Oswego.

I could be wrong, but I believe they have to report their method of awarding it to the NCAA ahead of time, and their only options are Regular Season or Tournament Champions. So no. The SUNYAC AQ is already locked in as a prize for the tournament championship.

I think he was referring to the AQ. The SUNYAC wouldn't be the ones to hand out the additional bid to Plattsburgh in that scenario, that'd be the DIII Championship Committee.

Hmmm, Interesting. Thanks!:o

I realize that the NCAA would be giving Platty the other bid I just didn't word it the way I should have.

I know that you know how it works, but I was just helping to clarify so as to avoid any confusion :p

I can see how confusion might arise when considering the target audience.

At the risk of overstating the obvious - its not February yet - still a bunch of hockey to play here.....

True. After watching the Genny v Oswego game last night, i believe the SUNYAC is clearly a three team race now. Genny looked really good last night, what an amazing improvement from seeing them play earlier this season!

Our (Genny's) goalies struggled a bit early on and there are lots of freshman in the line-up who made a good many freshman errors. Both have changed for the better, and the team rightly feels pretty confident at this point. The biggest change from the last few years is that there are now quite a few guys who can put the puck in the net, taking some of the pressure off guys like Zac Vit.

Well, it's working for them right now. I don't know if you were at the game, but some would argue they were the better team on the ice last night. As a fan, it was a great hockey game to watch

Geneseo has some very good young players for sure. What happened to the big guy Manley? It's clearer now how good they are. Tough to tell while they were playing those creampuff OOC games, but they looked pretty good last night and could've won.

Gosek said as much in the post game last night - when you don't get the bounces you should, you work to get the ones you shouldn't...survive and advance...

Manley injured his knee and I believe he's out for the year. Another top player they really missed was Justin Scharfe. I'm not sure of his status. I'm the Faculty Athletic Rep at Geneseo so I try to get to as many games as I can. Last night was my first trip to Oswego for a game, and I must say it's a great building with a great atmosphere--very different from Geneseo's rink, which also has a great atmosphere in its own way.

I'm rooting for Genny to finish strong...but I don't get your point regarding OOC games? Geneseo went 4-4 OOC. All four wins were against "creampuff" teams - I get your point there...but they also lost to Nazareth and Elmira??

...or maybe you are just trying to "stir the pot"...

The league determines how the autobid is awarded. All D3 hockey leagues with Pool A bids award it to the league playoff champion.

Well, at least Adrian and Hobart are good teams (both losses).

Remember, to the Committee, losses to bad teams are better than losses to good teams.

To expand on what Joe said. One of the NCAA criteria is record against ranked teams (NCAA ranked teams).

A loss to a ranked team hurts you in three ways
1. It hurts your winning percentage (as does a loss to a bad team, of course)
2. It hurts your record against ranked teams
3. It hurts you in a potential head to head comparison with that team for seeding or a Pool C spot

A loss to an unranked team only hurts you in one way.

It's totally counter-intuitive, but if you had a 20-5 record and your losses were all to ranked teams, you would probably be behind a team with a 20-5 record with all losses to unranked teams.
