Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

Thoughts and prayers.

I say we re-enact the assault weapon ban that expired in 2004, and when the gun huggers cry about it we just offer them our thoughts and prayers. If it's good enough for the victims it should be good enough for the gun huggers.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

Since guns are cars the laws we need are easy.

1. When you buy a gun it has a VIN Number.
2. That VIN number must have insurance associated with it and a licensed owner associated with it.
3. To obtain that license you must take a class and pass an exam.
4. If you buy a second gun your insurance goes up.
5. The gun also has a license tax that goes with it that must be paid yearly.
6. All of this is in a database that is easily accessible by law enforcement.

#1 repeal and replace the second amendment

banning of assault rifles and high capacity magazines with a mandatory buyback (6 month grace period before you're a criminal)
can't buy ammunition without providing a valid registration for a gun that uses that ammo type
limits on ammo purchases, tracked in a national database so you can't hit every store in a 20 mile radius to stock up
must pass a yearly psych evaluation and background check to maintain your valid gun license
spouse or domestic partner must sign off on gun purchase
declare the NRA is a terrorist organization, lock up leadership and lobbyists for radicalizing the gun nuts

But aren't most gun owners law abiding good guys? If the law changes, why does that change? Say anything semi-automatic is banned with a buy back program, do they suddenly turn into blood thirsty criminals? A major military operation seems to say you think that gun owners are nuts, in which case they shouldn't own guns ;)

1. Most are law-abiding.
2. If you want EVERY gun banned and taken away, yeah, that WOULD take a major operation. People aren't just going to shrug and give up the guns. And you'd have to find all the guns that aren't registered.

Edit: I'm willing to compromise on some of my views, then I read Scooby's T/P snark and realize that anything short of BANZ THE GUNZ won't get people like him to the table to talk, so why bother? It's sad.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is calling for a focus on mental health and school safety in response to shootings like the one that took 17 lives in Florida, but his budget would cut funding in both areas.

Trump's latest budget would slash the major source of public funds for mental health treatment, the Medicaid program serving more than 70 million low-income and disabled people. The budget also calls for a 36 percent cut to an Education Department grant program that supports safer schools, reducing it by $25 million from the current level of $67.5 million.

Glad mental health will fix the problem.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

Oh, and if you own a gun that is unlicensed and use it or it gets used in ANY CRIME. Felony.

There, that solves that problem.

And he wonders why people get snarky about it. It's a complete joke-the R's don't want to do anything about mental health, they just want it as a source to blame for the next mass shooting, and the next, and the next, and the next. If people want it to change, quit voting for any politician who takes $1 from the NRA. Simple as that. Otherwise you're part of the problem, period.

Legally maybe but there are plenty of uninsured, unlicensed unregistered vehicles on road.

Just paint Verona on the side and you can go 20 miles from the island. A lot of people where I’m from do that.

Would you want the government/police to have more power?

In one of your other posts you vastly overstate the importance of the NRA. More so than other groups gun owners keep a close eye on what is going on and are pretty passionate about protecting 2A. That plays a much bigger role than the NRA.

Just arm all the blacks to the teeth. Then check back with those oh so sincere strict "Constitutionalists."

Oh FFS, if the gubbmint wants to take away your rights by force they have fighter jets, submarines, heavy arty, and tactical nuclear weapons.

This is the dumbest argument the gun fondlers make, and that's really saying something.

Do you people actually think a 2nd Amendment remedy is ever going to work? Are you really that delusional?

This is why this discussion is pointless.

Thoughts and prayers.

I thought they believed in God. Why don't they put their trust in the Lord?

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE LORD???!!!

You’re completely misrepresenting what I am saying. Drew S or anyone else isn’t going to win some war against the federal government. That isn’t even really my concern. What happens with local police departments when people are unarmed though? I would expect some areas would see some serious abuse of power.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: Reset The Calendar Again

In an argument with a Facebook friend (yeah, I know). She posted an article from that bastion of journalistic integrity, the Washington Examiner, about how this wasn't the 18th shooting at a school this year and how the liberal media was using that as a rallying cry. The article went on to post the previous 17 incidents. You know, I was saying to myself "That number seems off." OK, so this wasn't the 18th. I responded it shouldn't matter if it was the first one or the 18th one. The fact she is not outraged by this, that a mentally unstable teenager was able to get an assault rifle easier that it is to get a dog, is telling. She's on the "get all the facts first - see, this is fake news" train. Then, one of the idiots responding posted this:

Criminals don't care about laws PERIOD. No laws will make any difference. "But they'll stop people from getting guns," you'll say. Do you have any idea how many guns are out there already? Consider this, most guns are just as lethal as an AR-15 "ASSAULT RIFLE" *cringe* The AR-15 is not an assault weapon, people. It's just not. The weapon does not fire full-auto.

It's not an assault weapon. OK then.
