Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

You would think, yes, but then again these jackwagons aren't worried about their kids killing a bunch of other kids right now.

Parents with guns lying around the house within reach of their kids aren't going to respond to any deterrent, monetary, rational, or blatantly coercive. The guy leaving his gun where his kid can reach it is prima facie evidence he should be prohibited from having a gun. It's like drunk driving: if you do it you should lose your license even if you don't actually kill anybody, because doing it is proof you can't be trusted with a car.

I wasn't thinking about the guys you're describing. I was thinking about the guys who *think* they're being safe with their firearms, but have just been given extra motivation to actually become safe with their firearms. Also, it raises the entry point in terms of cost for people actually purchasing guns. I don't have a safe? Well, the gun + safe would be $1500, and I only have $1300, so I'm SOL for now. Or they don't have enough capacity for yet another gun.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

Perhaps a better way of phrasing your law could be that if parents don’t take some basic protections they could get in trouble. I’d be okay with that even though I doubt it would be very effective.

I don't want for them to just "get in trouble." I want for them to be in deep **** because they're irresponsible enough to allow Li'l Unstable Billy enough access to weapons that he can extinguish the lives of his schoolmates. **** Li'l Unstable Billy's parents for allowing such a situation to develop.

I just can't see the guy who currently honestly thinks it's safe to have his gun lying around is making decisions using any form of future consequence weighting. That guy has to be the same impulse-driven Dumpy who slaps his wife around and rolls coal. That dope's behavior isn't going to be changed -- he's probably more likely to leave his gun around because WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF THOSE JEWS IN DC WHAT I DO IN MY OWN HOUSE MAKE ME A SAMICH!!!

Probably a mixed bag. I’m sure some of the parents have done everything they can and the kid still shoots up the school. This article shows how even for people of significant means it’s not easy dealing with children who have mental illness http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/01/nathan-carman-linda-carman-death-at-sea.html

There have been plenty of parents who I've known over the years that kept their guns in a rack, and taught their kids about gun safety. For the most part, those kids aren't going to do something like this - at least not when I was growing up. Now, I'm not so sure.

So long as guns persist, we need a way to work the margins at making things safer for the children who don't take up arms in the classroom. We can't stop all of this violence, but we can reduce it through something like holding the parents at least partially culpable.

Shouldn’t we be asking why when you were growing up it wasn’t an issue and now it is?

Yes, we should. In the meantime, until that answer is found, which won't be soon, shouldn't we do something to protect the innocent?

There weren't as many guns then. And they didn't have ARs and AKs in the hands of regular folk.

And the nerds just accepted they were nerds, and toxic to women. Instead of walking around with the sense of entitlement that even the hawt chicks are nothing but service vessels for their sexual dominance desires.

You regurgitate NRA talking points even better than Dana Loesch.

Analogies like that are so, well, stupid.

A car is supposed to move you from A to B. There are accidents and incidents where people die.

A guns is supposed to kill whatever you are shooting at. The INTENTION is that people die. Accidents also happen where people die.

But the intention of each tool is completely different.

Come up with a better argument, already. That one is far to easy to poke holes into.

Regardless of the point of treating guns like cars in terms of licencing, safety, etc- that would go a long way.

Guns are not equal to cars. If you want to make them equal fine. Get rid of both, or force guns to have the same laws as cars.

1. License to use a firearm. (drivers license)
2. License for every firearm (tabs)
3. Liability Insurance (this isn't a new idea for guns, it's out there already).

Either or works for me. I don't "need" a car if it also means giving up the carnage.
"Sarcasm is my second favorite -asm"
At least rufus got it

You get rid of cars, and only criminals will have cars.

if you have a kid with a mental illness, you probably should get rid of your guns.

You support the politicians that refuse to fund the asking of why, so your answer to your own question is no, we shouldn't.

I'm sorry, but after looking at porn, the last thing on my mind is going on a mass shooting spree.

Already done it. Watching porn.
