Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

Wishing there were still fistfights is like yearning for the days of civilized warfare where the gentry had picnics while the soldiers killed one another in open fields.

and the two sides stood out in the open in two lines across from each other and shot in volleys.

Wearing bright colors so you couldn't miss.

We had Darwin on our side, then.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

So we're all armed with the facts on the Waffle House shooting kid:
- Jumped the White House fence in 2017.
- Was investigated by the FBI and the State of Illinois.
- Had his FOID card revoked by the State of Illinois, his residence.
- His old man promised investigators that the weapons confiscated by the FBI/SoI would not be given back to the kid if the old man could keep them.
- Same weapons confiscated were used in the Waffle House shooting. The old man admits giving them to his kid, against the FBI/SoI ruling; that's unlawful carry by the kid within the State of Illinois.

But yes, let's ensure that people like this kid "continue to have his second amendment rights unimpeeded."

Infringed.

Re: 0 Days Since Last Shooting: But the Second Amendment!

Did he ever receive any treatment? That’s what I would be most curious about.

I read that last August he agreed to go to a hospital for an evaluation after repeatedly resisting the police's request to do so. This was after he called police to complain that people were tapping into his computer and phone and people were "barking like dogs" outside his home. I'm not going to claim to know civil commitment laws in the state of Illinois, but generally speaking a mental health professional would have to declare that he was an imminent threat to himself or others. I don't know if anything else has been reported about his hospital visit at that time.

Well, the State did its job. It looks like daddy circumvented the will of the people. Will daddy be held accountable?

daddy shouldn't have been allowed to keep those guns

Subscribed.

That dad should be charged with accessory.

If the state had done its job it would have kept daddy's guns, the black people in that restaurant would still be alive and the shooter would just be another crazy neighbor espousing conspiracy theories.

Slightly edited and I'm agreeing with the above statement.

According to the sheriff's department in Illinois who turned the guns over to the dad, since the dad had a valid state firearm ownership card, they didn't think they had the authority to keep them. Hopefully the state weighs in on that.

Did this guy live be at home? One nut job in the household should disqualify everyone from owning a gun.

Assuming we should be arming waiters, waitresses, line cooks, etc. now?

That is what you are most curious about? Not the fact that his father lied and gave him back his guns in violation of the law? Interesting...

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a line cook with a gun.

But what happens when it turns out he's a bad guy?

The only way to stop a line cook with a gun is a sous chef with a gun.

Repeat ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

our governments don't pay for mental health treatment.

hell, practically the first thing your hero Trumpy did upon taking office was to revoke Obama's executive order that made it harder for the mentally ill to acquire firearms.

He knows that. He just has fun telling everyone he wants universal coverage while he votes for everyone who wants to take coverage away

That and then shooting accidents can happen any day. Remember...

A teacher who is also a reserve police officer trained to use a gun accidentally discharged a firearm at Seaside High School in Monterey County, California, also on Tuesday. In a separate incident in Alexandria, Virginia, on Tuesday, a school resource officer — a five-year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department — accidentally discharged his weapon while inside George Washington Middle School.
