In visiting with Mike Harder again today, he twice mentioned the word ‘fun.’ He genuinely wants Colgate hockey to be fun, for the team and for its fans. Tonight was decidedly not fun for die-hard ‘Gate fans. And it couldn’t have been great fun for the team either. Hopefully the players had fun...

More random thoughts from the weekend... On Thursday, Clarkson Doug and I went to Cornwall, Ont., for a CCHL Junior 'A' game... Hawkesbury at Cornwall. The Ed Lumley Arena was #150 for me. Cornwall's coach is Grant Cooper, who played four years at Clarkson (2017-21) after five years with his...

Well, saen, you have waited awhile (prior to Friday's 3-2 win at #10 Maine in Orono)... On Friday-Saturday, October 18-19, 2019, Colgate traveled to Lowell, Mass., to play #18 UMass Lowell. Colgate beat UML, 4-3, in OverTime on Friday night. The next night, the two teams played to a scoreless...

For me, it is a similar feeling to tying BU in Boston… coming to Orono and winning on Friday and then taking them to OT (before ultimately losing). Alford Arena was rockin’ again tonight. Last night, I was away from the ice in section NN (upper bowl). But tonight I was in section M (lower...

Andrew Takacs led the team onto the ice for tonight’s game in Orono, Maine. Maine’s goalie is Albin Boija again. Maine penalty (cross-checking). And Colgate’s Jack Brandt with the PPG, from Isiah Norlin and Ryan Sullivan. Jack Brandt with his second goal of game, from Ryan Sullivan and Isiah...

We know how Canisius felt last Friday night in accomplishing a weekend goal on night one. Reid Dyck played very well, but he also lucked out when Maine missed a virtually empty net very late in the game. We played the defensive shell game to perfection in the third period. It is...

Reid Dyck led Colgate out onto the ice tonight at Maine. Albin Boija is expected to be in goal for the Black Bears tonight. Maine penalty (tripping). PPG by Michael Neumeier from Isiah Norlin. Halfway through the period, Maine scored a beauty. Maine penalty (faceoff interference). Killed...

UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

To be fair, my beloved Colgate can be a ‘cupcake’ this season. See Friday night game at BU. See Friday night game at home against Canisius. But, instead of being a ‘cupcake,’ we can also be a ‘hard roll.’ You never know which one you are going to be served.

When will we see NCAA Power Index (NPI)?

Is the NPI officially the… NCAA Power Index, NCAA Performance Index, or NCAA Percentage Index? Thanks!

Colgate had 41 SOG on Saturday, which got me wondering... was that the most SOG by Colgate in the Mike Harder era? And the answer is no. In his 76 non-conference and ECAC Hockey games, his teams have outshot their opponents 38 times. In seven of those games, Colgate has had 40+ SOG. In six of...

Just a much-needed win tonight. And a good win for Reid Dyck. Of course, Canisius accomplished their weekend goal... a split on the road. I also had a good visit with John McGraw tonight, who continues to set the gold standard for fairness and objectivity in college hockey announcing...

Reid Dyck led Colgate onto the ice for tonight's pre-game warm-up. Andrew Takacs and Jack Olson are also dressed for Colgate. Chase Clark led Canisius out onto the ice for the second straight night. It appears that a Boston Bruins scout was in the building last night and tonight. Five minutes...

RainMan, I wondered on the drive home if the goal 16 seconds in wasn't a bad thing, as it may have given 'Gate a false sense of confidence. TeacherBill, to be fair, this is not your father's Canisius team. They are 5-1 now with other wins over Clarkson, Saint Lawrence, Long Island and Army...
