2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Fair enough - i still don't believe that any sort of big majority of people who voted for Trump support the deaths we have seen. (Certainly, there are some that will never see their side as doing anything wrong) - but currently only 33% of Americans view ICE favorably - so by definition there...

119th congress: must be at least 75 to chair a committee!

Here in MA, one of our senators (currently running for re-election) arrived for the first time in Washinton before Jimmy Carter.

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

I'm using the absolutes as an example of how there are positions in between the two that we should be striving for. Did you support the bipartisan immigration bill? Would you support a candidate if they were promoting a similar idea?

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Actually, my boys said yes - but that does not mean i want to move further left for immigration ideas. Did you support the bipartisan immigration bill? Would you support a candidate promoting a similar idea?

He said he was going to have unmarked masked agents shooting US citizens? Please find me that quote.

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

I voted for Harris - and supported the bipartisan bill. Are you saying that since it didn't get through you think we should go for no borders / 100% amnesty? Or was the bipartisan bill too "moderate" for you to begin with and you wanted no borders all along? Also, in fairness, it is untrue that...

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

How about something along the lines of - borders are more secure to reduce illegal crossings but at the same time system is revised to increase immigration for those who will be productive members of society while also identifying and keeping out those who may be here to do harm. For those...

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Yes - i think it is shameful. That does not mean i support 100% amnesty.

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

But that is in the DSA platform. And i believe you are correct about the majority overstaying their visas. The DSA platform advocates for 100% amnesty regardless of status. For people like this wouldn't it make more sense to figure out an improved system to determine who can stay / have their...

Exactly. Does that perspective help you understand how ridiculous these extreme "either/or" barbs sound?

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

There you go - that is the type of position i would be talking about. I refuse to believe the choices are binary between "blank check for ice" and "zero borders". The bipartisan bill was a good bill IMO. Should have been passed. Shameful that Trump killed it and republicans fell in line...

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Of course none of this is what i was saying. But of course you will only look at it through your lens. As mentioned before - are you really so blinded with anger that you can't find an opinion on immigration issues that is somewhere between "eliminate borders / 100% amnesty" and "masked agents...

Is there bad blood between Jackson and Mills from somewhere in history?

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

I would 100% agree that there is no one person in the Democratic Party that has a grip on other members in the same way that Trump does on republicans. But some of the concepts are equally whacky in opposite directions.

Josh Turek was just interviewed on CNN. Unfortunately I don’t think he has much of a chance in Iowa but my first impression is that he seems like the type that the country needs more of.

The Cities: I could have sworn we had this thread but I guess not

Here in the northeast, there is a total fishing ban - not allowed to target them and if you do hook one the law is that you are not even supposed to bring it out of the water to get the hook out. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species/atlantic-sturgeon

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

On what topic? Surely on any given issue you should be able to envision a position somewhere between the far left and far right? Immigration for example - is there really nothing you can picture in between "zero borders, 100% amnesty" and "masked undercover agents murdering citizens"?

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

More ridiculous, drivel coming from the right… what’s disappointing Is that unlike Tuberville, Johnson is actually probably a fairly intelligent guy. It’s amazing how the world has become more about “owning the other side“ versus trying to get stuff done.

2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

I’ll have to do my own reading on that too for my real opinion… Can’t say I remember the specifics. Either way, I don’t think that not having the public option has destroyed The Country… And I think we should all be thankful that they did not vote along with Schumer to kill the filibuster.
